Friendly and warm-hearted owners with family owned restaurant serving very solid and good food in a friendly atmosphere. The freshly squeezed orange juice though.... Also nice bathrooms :)
The food is horrible and overpriced! Stay away from the grill cheese and chicken noodle soup deluxe the noodles were overcooked and the grill cheese the bread was so thin that the cheese was all you basically had. And the topped it off with some shriveled week old pickles on the side and the customer service was just as dry STAY AWAY OR YOULL BE ? SORRY???
Had breakfast here for the first time in 10 years this past weekend. Ate here frequently 40 years ago when I lived in Hyde Park and again my last two visits. Lots of good food, big servings and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend Salonica for breakfast ( my only recent meals). Looks good for other meals as well. Casual atmosphere.
Everything I ever had was delicious
The food is great the service is awesome feel like family
Pretty good diner experience near campus. It's roguhtly the same price as getting Greek food from the cafeteria if you are a student and the decor is more rustic and diner-like. It was greasy, like I expected.
As always, the food was tasty, portions were generous, prices were moderate, and the service was consistent. We were not rushed. Vaccination cards and identification are checked upon entry and masks are required.
I just bought a chicken kabob plate, which usually implies char grilling, or at least a stick involved. What I received was boiled, unseasoned chicken breast, a smashed tomato, slimy onions, and rice so oily that there was a soup of oil at the bottom of the plate. It came with sliced white bread and some saltines as if that made the experience better. And all for $17.00?? I mean, it's very clearly false advertising. Please avoid this place.
Salonica was pretty good, went in for lunch with a colleague and seated right away. Service was great and fast. Greek salad was delicious and fresh, the gyro was also delicious. The fries needed more seasoning and the Monte Cristo was just ok (but I also altered it to include turkey and ham, where the recipe called only for ham). This was fresh, good quality slices of meat, similar to great deli slices (not that prepackaged stuff). All in all, I'll be back, perhaps next time for breakfast (which they serve all day, btw). A Hyde Park staple for sure and well loved by the locals.
Nice place for a good meal. Get the waffles or pancakes. Hash browns too dry. Don't ask for eggs scrambled well. Also dry.
