Small shop have a couple of high tops inside then 3 benches outside. Had the XXX chicken sandwich on the biscuit was tasty and very spicy. The peach cobbler was more breading than peach with Caramelized sugar..Good for those that like the breading. I would prefer more peach flavor. Chicken was nice and crispy.
Fantastic chicken spot and great spot. You know the food going to hit the spot when the workers got an attitude. Crispy and crunchy chicken with a great amount of spice. The biscuits were nice and soft as well. They got a great lil patio spot outside to eat, not much space inside.
If you are dining inside or at one of the three picnic tables outside and you want ice, a cup, or a straw? Take your own. The chicken flesh is tender and juicy; the skin, however, is fried too long and too hard. The peach cobbler is more like a dump cake. Do not expect a light, flakey crust or you will be as disappointed as I was. The pricing is high, portions are meager, and amenities are few. Although staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the odds of a return visit are not good.
Homestyle chicken sandwich and Sunrise chicken sandwiches we're both good. As well as their Peach cobbler, mac and cheese.
I’ve been doing my best to eat every spicy fried chicken sandwich that is available in this fantastic city, and it was Roost’s time to be tested.I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich Homestyle Nashville Hot on a biscuit and fresh cut fries, and their peach cobbler. After realizing I couldn’t get a cup of tap water, I decided to order a lil jug of lemonade. My brother ordered the 3 tenders with fries, and a biscuit. The staff was friendly and seemed like they were having a great time at work, and professional enough—I am at a fried chicken joint not Mastro’s—so service was more than adequate. The food came out relatively quick, and was fresh & piping hot.The sandwich was very good, not dry (hard with a chicken breast), and spice flavor was good-to-great—for being second down from their spiciest option—the sandwich wasn’t SPICY spicy (my tolerance is probably a touch higher than some), but that’s all good and the sandwich didn’t stand a chance—10/10 it was devoured. The biscuit, Fries, and Peach Cobbler get honorable mentions because they also were great to help round out my meal which was 10/10 for quality and flavor.I got to try the tenders my brother ordered and they were also great—breading was not overdone, spice was similar to mine, and they were decent in size (as they should be for the price). The meal was very filling, and the lemonade was great. The only thing I wanted to address is price: this is not a *cheap* place to eat. In fact, I would say their price point is on the higher end from other spots I’ve tried. The meal was around $30 per person (if you also get lemonade) and the lemonade (1qt/32oz) was $7–THAT IS *A LOT* for lemonade—so much so, I am guessing the employee may be new because when she rang me up for two lemonades, she thought the total (~$15) was wrong (it wasn’t)—haha. I think a fairer price would be less, but it WAS good and I overall didn’t regret getting it.To sum it up.. the service was great, the food was great, and (imo) you gotta make that west loop/west town money to eat here with any regularity. Personally, I will move up to their spiciest level next time I visit.I will definitely return and would have no problem recommending this place to anyone looking for a great spicy fried chicken sandwich. Thanks Roost :)
The Spicy Cajun strips are large and good. My only issue with this place is it is expensive. 20 bucks for a meal. However the sides are amazing. Mac n cheese, the biscuit and the Cobbler are always my favorite.
Saw ad on IG and had to take a drive and try, good taste, biscuit was a tad hard and dry for me but still decent. Good flavored chicken and fresh cut frys, Mac was mediocre at best. Over all I paid $21 for a sandwich with cheese & bacon and a fry+Mac (comes with 2 sides) with no drink. Don't think I'll be going back based on prices alone.
The only reason I didn’t give them a 2 star is because the food was fresher the last time I had it and hoping this was my last bad experience with the Chicken. The chicken was refried and the breading was really hard and almost teeth shattering. If your paying top dollar for a chicken sandwich it should be fresh. Still tasty just not freshly made.
This place is fantastic! I work nearby and was looking for a new lunch joint. If you are as well, this place will not let you down. Had a chicken biscuit sandwich with sides of Mac and Cheese, as well as peach cobbler. I would go back based on the sides alone! The sandwich was awesome. It was literally a chicken breast on a huge biscuit. I was so hungry and this was so satisfying that I didn't have time to take a picture. The Roost has made a new regular out of me after a single visit. Can't wait to go back!
This is one of the best Nashville-style hot chicken sandwiches I've had in Chicago. You can order one of their listed sandwiches or create your own by choosing different toppings, and you can choose to have your sandwich on a biscuit or Hawaiian roll. I had a basic Nashville chicken with pickles and cheddar cheese on a biscuit, and it was delicious. The sandwich came with two sides -- I had fries and macaroni and cheese, both of which were very good. Everything was cooked to order and very fresh. My server was very attentive as well. The restaurant appeared to be following COVID guidelines, and requested my vac card and ID in order for me to be seated, which I applaud. Highly recommended.
