This is another Trip Advisor top rated restaurant for original deep thick crusted style pizza I used park wiz to park in between this and the hot dog place we reviewed. Since we were going to 2 different restaurants we just got a personal Pan pizza the classic that had sausage on it we didn't have to wait too long about 20 minutes To be seated they do tell you to go ahead and order while you're waiting which is pretty neat so then we didn't have to wait that long after we sat down. It was very good although we do like thin crust. This crust is called the butter crust it's very crispy which surprised me I thought it would be thick and Doughy. It's almost like a bisquick crust .We really enjoyed it..the restaurant was loud although we had a table of single guys next to us that were On their way to being pretty drunk One of them spilled hus drink all over his shorts so I guess that's karma. Service was good. Hostess was very nice
Great food with awesome staff. The pizzas are well worth enjoying especially when visiting Chicago. The acoustics make large group conversations tough.
Lou Malnati's never disappoints! As someone who comes to Chicago regularly and has for years, it's one of my favorite places for deep-dish pizza.Arrive early or prepare to wait awhile. Everyone pizza takes a full hour to cook, but it's so worth it. If you're looking for a true Chicago-style pizza, this is a great option.
My friend and I arrived about 10 pm and were told it closed at 11 so plenty of time. We were instructed that we should preorder before being seated for quicker service. We were seated within 10 minutes but were then told our order of one small deep dish would be 17 minutes. An hour later we were still waiting. By the time the pizza came it was 11:30 and the crust was burnt on the bottom and raw in the middle. The cheese was more like the consistency of bubble gum and by then the waiter was surly and dropped the bill on his way past the table without even stopping. For a business that was supposed to close at 11, to not even receive your inedible food until 11:30 is incomprehensible. The ladies washroom was another highlight to be avoided at all costs I might add. Needless to say our overpriced pizza and 2 sodas were comped when the manager was summoned.
Visited Chicago with my 2 sons and husband and had to give Malnati’s a try as we had read reviews and had talked to numerous people who recommended this place. I liked the atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. I like that you can get on the waiting list and then preorder your food so you don’t have a long wait to eat once seated. We decided to order the large classic deep dish which feeds 4 and is plenty for 4. It gives you 2 slices each and we had 2 slices left over. The bread was bland, not much taste, the tomato sauce was chunky and again bland. All 4 of us felt is was just ok. Have had better pizza elsewhere and back home. I wouldn’t say it was bad, just on the bland side. I haven’t been anywhere else for pizza in Chicago so have nothing to compare it to here. I’ll try Gino’s East next.
After living for years in Chicago, it was nice to be back for business and to be able to enjoy some deep dish pie just like the old days. I love that their crust is vegan unless you order the butter style. So check the website before you order. I did mine as a tomato pie with veggies and the crust still made my individual pizza amazing and worth the price tag. This location also did a great job delivering to us on site at work downtown, so I highly recommend them both based on the quality of their product and their service. For work we did thin crust and it was cut into little squares and we were provided serving utensils, napkins and plates, which made a company lunch super easy. Lou's always wins the Chicago deep dish battle with me! I have a lot of friends on the other side of this fence, but until they're vegan friendly and offer such great service, I'll be hanging with Lou.
Always enjoy some Chicago style pizza. I hadn't had Lou's in about 10 years but have had Gino's East and Giordano's since then. Had to try Lou's again to compare. I'd say Lou's is 3rd best. Very good, but not quite as good as the others. Their sauce is a little chunkier with big pieces of tomato and has a stronger garlic flavor than the others. Crust not quite as thick either.
We waited for more than one hour to get our table. We wanted to try the deep dish pizza. 1- The worst taste sprite ever ( I think it was from the Ice). 2- They brought the salad but no forks ( she was surprised when we asked for forks) 3- They brought the pizza but no knives ( I don’t remember last time I had this in a dine in restaurant) the pizza was acceptable but over cooked, so crusty. 4- Then after about 45 minutes she said I’m sorry but it seems that we lost your deep dish pizza and we have to wait for 20-25 minutes if we want it. The manager was very kind and he offered meal for free which we tried to refuse. Then we saw the manger having the same conversation with a table next to ours, offering a free meal! The floor was very dirty ( disgusting)
We went to the Michigan Avenue location first which is a tourist heavy area. Since there was a 30 minute wait there, we walked over to this River North location. We walked in and were seated immediately. The service was good and the food was great. We ordered the combo appetizer plate and a Lou Malnati small sausage pizza for the two of us. There is a relaxed vibe here. I highly recommend this location. This is my second time visiting this location with great experiences both times.
