I had the Dongbei Chinese food and Japanese food, and both of them are awesome! The Chinese food is freshly made and everything tastes like home! People are very nice! Pork pancakes and egg pancake stuffed with veggie (猪肉馅饼和鸡蛋灌饼) made me so happy! The Japanese food is good. The takoyaki has too much dough than octopus, so not the best one I have ever had, and the okonomiyaki is very flavorful. The place is hard to find: we get into the building, and go to the B1. Overall, love this little underground food court!
What a great variety of food to choose from.
Awesome authentic Chinese food. Just don't come before noon otherwise very few vendor stalls are open.
Not a whole lot of options and many of the restaurants don't really have a clear menu
If you're looking for authentic, cheap eats - this is the place to go in Chinatown! As someone who lived in China for 2 years, you can find some super authentic regional cuisine here, from handmade dongbei style dumplings, biang biang noodles, and even maocai! Each of the different stalls has something to offer!
Each stall has their specialty dishes at great prices. Don’t be shy, ask questions and try some specialty items. I have several favorite items. Two are the chive boxes and dumplings from Dong Bei Ren Jia (Family from the North). It’s the stall in the back of the food hall run by two elderly ladies. The food is made per order so very fresh and tasty. That chive box is the best in Chicagoland hands down. Please comment if you’d had a better one. Dumplings are handmade each day too. They are delicious, but of course my grandma’s dumplings are better. Another favorite is the marinated spicy snacks at the stall next door. Sorry forgot the name but they have all sorts of spicy marinated snacks. We love the lotus and duck necks. We eat the food quickly and forget to take pictures every time! Lol
Good food clean tables and chairs nice staff
The (in)famous "Underground Chinatown". Lots of cozy little places here, though I only tried the udon at Ky Lin and the boba at Elitea. Wanted to try Chi Yatai but could never arrive on a day that it is open (it's only open from Thursday to Saturday which is quite weird). Not much to say about them (which is probably a good thing since I remember negative points very well). They were all correct and the tea tasted fresh. Don't get the gold cheese top unless you like metallic fake gold leaves on your drink for whatever reasons though. The one thing that has to be said about this place however is that it's extremely suffocating. Hot in summer and cold in the winter, and you can tell the basement is chocked full of hot vapor and smoke from the stands. It's not a big deal if you come here for the food, but the place could really use some proper ventilation.
Variety of local food stalls run by wholesome sweet elder folk in a low ceiling basement that could moonlight as a 70s roller rink... this is as authentic as it gets.
Can seem vacant at times. Still a decent place to eat or browse around during busy hours.
