Loved the food here! I don’t think my wife and I were expecting the food and atmosphere to be as enjoyable as we found it to be. Loved the old time historical decor and the staff was fun and pleasant. The hot dogs were excellent and my wife enjoyed the onion rings. We shared a chocolate cake shake and it was really good! We might stop by Portillo’s on our way to the airport today before our trip home!
Very popular, casual, neighborhood restaurant on N Clark & W Ontario. You can walk in, place your order and pick it up within minutes. I was surprised by the spacious food court feel when I walked in. But way cooler. Service was quick and we enjoyed our first classic Chicago style beef hot dogs. It hit the spot. We had a side of onion rings too.
Cool building, large eat-in cafeteria style. Wait in line, order food, wait for food and sit. It was a pretty long wait, even one of the employees behind the counter agreed. We also got the popular cake shakes, they tasted like they sound...crumbled up cake in a shake. Nothing to rave about but not bad either. I got the Baked Mostaccioli and it was delicious! Another in my party got the Italian Beef Sandwich and wasn't impressed. Not terrible, but not great either. I'd go again, but not sure why all the hype.
One of the best hot dogs I have ever had! Beef sandwich, even with extra gravy was a bit dry but also pretty good. Atmosphere was awesome! The shakes are to die for!
Loved it! The best hot dogs EVER!!!! IF IN CHICAGO, THIS IS A "GOT TO"!!!!! I always wanted to eat a Chicago-style hot dog. This is the place to stuff your face. Classy, historic, ambiance, and great set up.
I really liked this place. There are really long lines, but very quick. I was waiting on the order for a couple of minutes, but hotdogs only. Those were ready before I ordered a beer :) also, they serve a beer in an ice-cold glass! Awesome! A lot of space, 2 floors, easy to find a table. Definitely recommend if you never tried Chicago-style hot dog ?!
We found the high rating enticing and knowing that we ‘had to’ have a Chicago dog, we decided to go here. There was a greeter who answered our questions before we went to order food (so we didn’t feel quite so stupid). Very simply process to order and then just wait for your food and your number to be called. The hot dogs were crunchy and loaded. I passed on the hot peppers but my husband happily ate them all. Glad I had a chance to experience a typical Chicago hot dog, but I won’t be rushing out to get another one anytime soon.
Not only was the inside of this place decorated so fun but the food was amazing! Being from southern illinois and hearing about this place I had to try it and it did not disappoint!
This was on my list of places to visit before we arrived in Chicago, I finally had a Chicago style dog on day three of our stay. I ordered a Chicago dog and a chilli dog from the counter and a beer from the bar then waited at the collection point. Wow ! Everything I’d hoped for, the fresh tangy Chicago dog was brilliant, but for me , the chilli dog was even better, reminding me of the chilli dogs from my childhood. Great value, fun surroundings, quick service , brilliantly tasty dogs, superb ! I’m gonna sneak back later!
Every time I come to Chicago, Portillo's is a must. The Italian Beef alone is well worth the trip. It is delicious!
