Great pizza, particularly impressed with the crust
As a good Italian, I had a lot of prejudice when I heard about “Deep Dish Pizza”. In my mind: “how could consider this thing pizza???”However, I tried to open my mind and going to this place ready to have a simple meal: a GREAT meal was what I got!!!The place is very small but characteristic. Servers are polite and help you to choose what you want and need.Quality was very good and better than expected: meatball were great (especially the tomato sauce that with its all simplicity was able to remind me home)… even if this looks more as a “rustic cake” (in Italy, we would call it “pizza/torta rustic”), Pizza was very good too and especially because of the quality of the product chosen. We had the “Nunero Uno” with no Green Pepper and it was delicious.Price was also fair for the quantity of food.I was really happy and satisfied for the experience and I suggest it to everyone. This place is worth it and Deep Dish Pizza is something that I started to appreciate thanks to “Pizzeria Uno”!
Welcome to the place where Deep Dish Pizza was created. It all started in 1943 and the operation has continued until current day. That all seemed to be tempting to knock off of the old bucket list, but the big question is, was it worth the drive from Indiana for me? I’ll go with both yes and no. Yes being of the importance to sit in the establishment that started a craze for all pizza lovers and no for the actual realization that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. I dined inside here with my girlfriend around the evening. It’s a lot smaller than I would have guessed. There’s a skew of tables throughout the place maneuvering from the awkward host desk area, past the bar, through the middle, and towards the back. The layout wasn’t well thought out in my opinion, but it was built in the 1940s, so I guess it’s understandable. We only had to wait a few minutes for a table, so regardless, that was still a plus, since it was Sunday. We sat at a little table built for two people. Our waiter quickly greeted us and took our order. I ordered a Diet soda and we got the Windy City Hurricane for a Cocktail. It had Rum and a mix of both orange and pineapple juices. The Diet was really good and included free refills. The Hurricane was alright, but not really worth $10.49 in my opinion. We ordered Garlic Bread for an Appetizer and for our main choices, we shared a Small Numero Uno Deep Dish Pizza and an Italian Beef Sandwich. The Pizza had Extra cheese, fresh sausage, pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. We were told it would be about 45 minutes for the Pizza. The Italian Beef Sandwich had spicy au jus and green peppers on it and was served with fries. The Garlic bread came with a sauce and came out rather fast. They didn’t give too much for the $6.49 that it was. It was decent quality, but not worth it for a second time. The sauce helped amplify the flavor. The Pizza seemed to be a lot quicker than 45 minutes! I’d say it was about 25 minutes. Oh well, I wasn’t going to complain about that. The Pizza didn’t seem to have the best presentation. It also wasn’t as thick as I would have imagined. The quality of it was there in an on and off kind of way. The ingredients didn’t seem to have a natural flow. I’d even go to say most of the ingredients were geared towards the center of the Pizza opposed to throughout, including the edges. It had potential, I’d say more than it brought to the table. The crust was on the buttery side with a softer flake to it. I did enjoy that aspect of it. The Italian Beef Sandwich had a long form to it and wasn’t fully closed. It was served more so dry, so it tasted a lot better once it was dipped. The fries were just okay. The service was great. Our server kept up on refills and taking our order. I was impressed by his level of service. It’s not seen often. Overall, this was a very important trip for a lover of pizza. I’d say this place serves more of the purpose of trying the place that started Deep Dish Pizza, rather than being someone’s favorite place, but hey, see for yourself. Either way, it’s a must in that aspect, but as for quality, I’d say they’re right over the line of average. I wouldn’t come out of my way for a return visit.
It was nice! Our server Jeff was great and the pizza was super tasty!
Service and location were decent but the pizza was extremely disappointing by Chicago standards. The crust was terrible, the sauce flavorless, and the cheese was almost non existent.
Pizza was great!
Great atmosphere nice original touch.
The original is still the best. This pizzeria uno is the original before it started franchising. If you've ever had a pizza at the franchise Uno Bar & Grill locations, the pizza is different. Here you will wait 35-45 minutes for that famous buttery crust deep dish pizza. It tasted nothing like the chains. If you've never had it here, you're truly missing out.
We were visiting from Florida and locals recommended Pizzeria Uno and we couldn’t be more pleased. The staff was very polite when I placed my to go order online and the food smelled, looked and tasted amazing. Highly recommend. We got the Numero Uno and it had fresh, quality ingredients.
