This is an absolute gem in Edgewater. The fried catfish bites were delectable! So fresh and lightly crispy, not oily at all. Some of the best I've had! For entrees we had the pork chop and gumbo and both were unbelievable. Such delicious food, cocktails, and an incredible rooftop atmosphere.

Chicago has been on a Southern and Cajun food kick of late and owner Danny Beck of Pearl's Southern Comfort in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood is "Bringing Bayou flavors to you" with a "Taste of N'Awlins" with his Cajun/Creole concept plus craft beers and cocktails in a down home setting. Located at 5352 North Broadway, it is open from 5 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 5 to 10:30 on Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 on Sunday. The plush layout features enormous arched windows in a revamped 100-year-old room, long exposed ceiling beams, whitewashed brick, dark slate walls, soft leather chairs, bare wood tables and a massive portrait of the owner's great grandmother, Pearl, the inspiration for it all. My wife and I started with Creole cornbread with honey butter, six large New Orleans BBQ shrimp sauteed in traditional New Orleans BBQ shrimp sauce, smoked chicken gumbo with andouille sausage and white rice and Pearl's Caesar salad with romaine lettuce topped with parmesan cheese and house-made garlic croutons tossed in traditional Caesar dressing. For entrees, my wife chose a house special, grilled Faroe Island salmon with tomato basil relish, cheese grits and and fried green tomatoes. I opted for a smoked BBQ double cut pork chop with Cajun slaw, Louisiana jambalaya and andouille sausage. For dessert, we shared a slice of spring carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a portion of white chocolate banana bread pudding. Can they do it any better in N'Awlins?

Gumbo’s thick and delicious, cornbread served hot, hurricanes are stiff. Come see and be entertained by Jose. He’ll make it an awesome experience!

We ordered the Barnyard Combo and Shrimp Po'Boy. Great food, served fresh so there was a bit of a wait. Only one server for the evening and she handled the room flawlessly.

Amazing comfort food! Everything in the menu is great! Love the art in the walls.

This was a first time experience and definitely a great. I’m from Cincinnati and pissed we don’t have any there. Thanks Ana for the recommendation

Great food and atmosphere!!!

Food is eatable but not “good”. Not sure what all the other reviews are about, maybe it’s because I had take out. The bread pudding is dense with no flavor, and I also had the jambalaya. Tasted like canned tomato sauce also no spices and boiled chicken. There was also a small hair in it

It has like this country feel at a glance but also has this New Orleans feel to it. It's very cute, the food amazing. The staff incredible and very attentive. First time here and completely loved it. Will try to make it back sometime soon.

Wait staff very helpful! Cornbread was off the chain! The apps are a hit! The joint was cozy enough for two yet big enough to bring the family. Plenty of parking all around the place!
