Its been told that this neighborhood restaurant will close by next year and Pumpkin’s Corgan bought the neon sign, so I had to try it out. Its a Friday in early May 2022 and first thing you notice is that its packed. Every time the door opens theres a buzz announcing your arrival. And it seems that there is 10x take-away for every table occupied. All good signs!!! The portions are huge and the food is very tasty. I personally enjoyed the hot/sour soup. It was hot (temperature) and the sour was a good pucker factor. The string bean combo (chicken/beef/shrimp) was very good. And so was the combo fried rice. The crab rangoons was a bit too soft not quite crunchy like I am used to. The service was a bit slow but i was okay with that cause it seemed they were short staffed. But service was friendly and accurate. Tables were a bit too close to the booths but I will visit again before the retirement of the owner.
Orange Garden is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago (1926). It also boasts the oldest working neon sign in the city, which was removed May 8, 2022.
How are you all I’ve been eating at the orange garden since 1963 this is the third owner I’ve been through the original owner Mark and then mom and Pa and the kids and now the sisters and brother are I haven’t ate there in two years I’ve been down in Florida tonight I ate there tonight fantastic food been eating their 58 years I truly missed it is good to be back I think it’s kind of cold here we strongly recommend orange cardinal garden
Very nice local place. I didn’t realize you could get excellent customer service with just pickup until going to this place- the staff was very friendly and quick. It’s obviously not gourmet Chinese food, but it’s a great deal for the taste and portions that you get here.
My step father went there for us once a week for years. He's recently passed so now I make the run for food. Always good, quantity is plentiful. Thanks for all our dinner memories together. See you soon.
The best I’ve ever had. We had fried wontons( so fresh), DELICIOUS WONTON SOUP!!!! The beef fried rice and chicken string beans were sooo good! Service was friendly and professional. ABSOLUTELY will be going back often. Worth the 45 minute trip!
Wrong order, expected me to pay more to get my right order. I got fish when I ordered chicken. I understand a lot is going on but they could have been more accommodating.
We called in our order and picked it up on the way home. My kids LOVE the orange chicken (their preference is without spice). I thoroughly enjoyed the Shrimp Delight (tons of shrimp and mixed veggies in a white sauce). My husband enjoyed the wonton soup and potstickers. Plenty of food in each entree so there were multiple days of leftovers, all feeling like a full meal.
Food is great, STL the best place in my neighborhood for Chinese take away. Today is Christmas day and it was jam packed. Orders fell far behind. Food still turned out well. I'll be returning.
Orange Garden has delicious Chinese food. It is what I consider a traditional Chinese/ American restaurant. They have been open since the 1930's. My family has enjoyed dining at Orange Gardens since the 1940's. The food is consistently delicious. The service is excellent.
