I had an opportunity to visit the Local Market and I was absolutely surprised about the beauty of the store. The store was very clean and items were extremely fresh. A friend recommended the Salad Bar and Lunch Buffet and I tried a few items. Everything was fresh and delicious. Store staff maintained the Buffet with constant cleaning, rotating food and replenishing items. Buffet is affordable andI would recommend stopping by, you will not regret. I hear the bakery items are very good too.
They're so inconsiderate to the people that stay in the community they're very rude they lock their doors 20 minutes before closing so no customers are allowed to enter just too just so they could walk out the door the same time as the customers at 9 p.m. which is so unfair because this is the only grocery store within a 10 Mi radius if you live in this community this is not fair crazy how they treat us I wouldn't be surprised if they closed after only a few years just like Whole Foods in Inglewood on 63rd.. the manager even told all Securities to not let anyone in they parked the car directly in front of the door but customers coming out barely have space to push their carts to their cars
Man where do I start, when going to the hot bar get ready to be harassed by the staff, there going to follow you around and make sure you have gloves on , they treat you like your nasty, even if you have gloves on , terrible experience, never treated like this at jewels, Marianos, just disgusting to bring this in our community and treat us like we’re nasty, shame on you! Jewels is my spot all day ! Prices on meat awesome! Shelf products ridiculously high, don’t do it , you’ll be broke, remember every body who work in there act like there the police, do as they say or your going to get it , just a group of rude people!
I think overall the store is nice but I have seen a big difference from when it first opened up until now. Let me explain further the buffet table is nice but sometimes the quality of the food isn't. The bbq chicken wings are burnt I have seen that quite a few times, the greens the last time I ate some were very gritty and sometimes under cooked, the cabbage can be good but whoever is cooking it isn't cleaning it properly. It sometimes have bad leaves cooked with the good ones inside of it, the fried chicken could be better it looks dried out like too much was cooked and it has been just sitting. I don't eat the greens anymore at all I only eat selected things I like and that looks fresh. I don't buy fresh chicken anymore 2 times I got some got it home opened it too cook it, it smelled badly/spoiled. I threw it away it was very hot days each time and didn't feel like going back out in the heat. I had something out of the bakery which tasted horrible so I don't eat the fresh baked goods either. Sometimes things that are in the weekly ads they don't have it I went to the deli one day last year and ordered some sliced lunchmeat that was on sale. Myself and another lady was standing there the younglady that waited on me was sweeping before she helped me. She did say I will be right with you when she got finished sweeping she just sanitized her hands not wash them me and the other lady both look at each other and shook our heads. I politely told her you can't help me until you wash your hands she said ok and did wash them. The point I am trying to make is I think some of the workers have gotten comfortable, lazy, and might not care as much anymore so they just do the bare minimum not quality service. Too me that speaks about how the store is being managed overall, I only shop there if they have a sale.
Stopped in Local Market today to grab some lunch and found out they offer my FAVORITE on-the-go quick bite, Soul Vegan!!Some of the employees in this establishment aren’t as friendly as other place but the amazing produce section makes up for lack of customer support. The prices are fair, the produce area, and did I mention that Local Market Foods has Soul Vegan products on the shelves…
I think it's a great thing that other developers came together to put this local market in the South shore community I used to live in the South shore community some years ago and before the local market existed there was a Dominick's grocery store which was great because it kept food and produce ready and available for all the families in the 60649 area code. I guess one day went out of business so that really hurt a lot of families especially a lot of people who were not mobile who had to rely on public transportation taxis or walking the next nearest grocery store was Jewel shopping center which was located and still located on 75th and Stony I am glad that the local market grocery store was put up a kind of remind you of Mariano's and bronzeville I love all of the organic foods and fruits and they also have a cafeteria smoothie bar and a hot food section where you can serve yourself they also have a great selection of wine spirits so if you are ever in the South shore community please stop byAnd check out the local market grocery store there's so much more to explore in South shore
Let me preface my comments by saying, I frequent this neighborhood store because it’s a welcome addition in this area that is commonly known as a ‘food desert’. The variety & quality of the inventory is very good. The food & juice bars are convenient healthy alternatives uncommon in this area. The prices are somewhat elevated but I’m willing to pay them to keep this valuable establishment in our neighborhood. However today I had an encounter with a manager by the name of Marvin who was confrontational and rude. He was telling some elders that they could not have beer in their cart in the dining area. They moved the cart but he then took the beer out. They commented they were not stealing, understood the policy but would like to not have to go back to the opposite side of the store to return the beer crisscross the store again to return to the seating. He was short & brusk with them imo. He then commented to me that they should have known better. I calmly asked him if it wasn’t posted how would anyone know & I suggested signage. Marvin then proceeded to let me know that he didn’t appreciate my input. Which I responded I simply didn’t want there to be another reason people would not frequent this much needed establishment. He reiterated that he didn’t appreciate my comments with such force that I advised him I won’t be coming back & would post about this incident. Beware of Marvin. He apparently expects you to know their policies that aren’t even posted
I found the store to be clean and spacious, with perishable items well-displayed and plentiful. The employees were courteous. My only issues are that some basic food items were missing off the shelves at each of 3 visits, forcing me to continue shopping at a smaller supermarket that was better stocked. I also don't like that cooked packaged deli meals and meats are moved to the less fresh cold foods section without being discounted.
Be careful when buying their produce. Most of it is usually molded. I found several bags of grapes with mold and told the guy working in produce, who did nothing about it. He barely spoke English and I doubt he understood even after I showed him. I’ve given an extra star because before this place came, there was no where to shop other than the overcrowded walgreens where you wait 20 minutes in line to buy one thing.
Customer service is the worst I've ever encountered. The store manager(MARVIN) is rude and have a very unprofessional tone when interacting with customers. This bad behavior also holds true for some of the cashier's when interacting with customers. The verbal tone is unprofessional, these cashier's appear to be very uninterested in being at work, they don't smile when customers approach the counter, and rarely thank the customer or say have a good day. Better service when I Shop in the Hyde Park community
