One of the most poorly communicated and unbelievably unsanitary jobs I’ve ever come into. These people had me come in to start my shift full time as a barista, but didn’t bother telling me after my first shift that they’re interviewing other people for literally the same position that I just came in to fulfill and that they wanted me to wait 4 days to find out if I’m even coming back or not. On top of that they’re refusing to pay me for my work, which is ILLEGAL.
I’ve been to multiple Leonidas shops in Belgium and was so happy to see this in Chicago. Had to buy some chocolate to see if it was exactly the same and it is. I will be back.
Charming little jewel of a cafe! Not only do they have delicious coffee selections, but wonderful food. Yes, you see the tempting display of yummy chocolate items and pastries, but their menu has so many delicious meals. I highly recommend this cafe!
High end chocolatier and café so a bit more pricey but amazing products and great selection if you're looking for a special treat. The pistachio latte was like nothing I'd ever had before- quite delicious! The restroom was very clean as well.
Leonidas Chocolate Cafe was founded in Belgium in 1913. Today, there are locations in Chicago, Evanston and Northbrook. Located at 59 East Chicago Avenue, at Rush Street, in downtown Chicago, Leonidas specializes in Belgian chocolates, French pastry, espresso bar, Belgian waffles, creperie, croissants, smoothies, macarons, ice cream, gelato, warm croissant sandwiches, omelettes, quiche and fresh squeezed orange juice. Open from 8 to 4 Sunday through Friday and 8 to 5 on Saturday, it is a popular breakfast destination for commuters and businessmen. My wife and I were delighted with a classic Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, bananas and Belgian chocolate, a warm turkey, brie and cranberry sandwich and an omelette with turkey, mushrooms, garlic spinach and gruyere. Dessert favorites are fresh apple almond tart, maple pecan tart, chocolate Framboise tart and spiced pumpkin cheesecake. Then go home with a container of dark chocolates or milk chocolates or white chocolates or caramels or butter creams or pralines or chocolate bars or ganache. You can't go away hungry or empty-handed.
Cozy crêperie with fresh fruit and real whip cream on the crepes. Friendly staff. Awesome cappuccinos! It’s just off Michigan Avenue so it’s not crowded, which makes it relaxing.
I tried the Extreme hot chocolate and it was delicious : whole milk, chocolate and sweet (I was afraid it would be bitter but was not). Fair price. I will come back to taste something else!
We got an extreme dark hot chocolate drink and a java milk hot chocolate drink. They were both very rich in chocolate and creamy / thick in consistency. I thought the extreme dark chocolate would be very bitter but it was not at all. I used to drink chocolate very often in the past but I hadn’t drunk it in years since I like foods & drinks with less and less sweetness as I grew up. The java milk hot chocolate wasn’t too sweet like I thought it would be but after a while we both needed some water. The almond croissant was soft and crunchy. There are thin almond slices and powdered sugar on top, frangipane (almond cream filling) spread between the croissant slice, and chocolate between the layers of the croissant. The chocolate was a nice surprise. The Quiche Lorraine was probably pre-made and re-heated since it’s a small coffee shop. The crust is crunchy / hard and soft on the inside with onion and bacon. It’s a nice little savory pastry for the morning enough to fill you up for a couple of hours without being hungry. Most customers came in to get drinks to go. You can also get chocolate / chocolate boxes here. The crêpes are made to order and I really want to try it, maybe next time.
The mango macron was delicious ?. The hazelnut left something to be desired. The organetta were very good.
This place is really good. It's the type of quaint bakery that you don't usually find in tourist areas. I have only had the drinks and bakery items but the blueberry muffins alone are enough to keep me coming back. They are so good and buttery. I have been recommending to friends/clients coming to town.
