I loved the inside vibe! Great place to come right after going to the beach. I got there root beer float and it was delicious! Would definitely come back!
We are chocolate lovers and tried 3 different flavor chocolate cakes. They are all awesome. Will try more in the future.
Yummy cheesecake and other baked goodies
Presentation a 10 out of 10.Taste a 2 out of 10. I bought a pumpkin and banana cream pie. The pumpkin pie lacked the pumpkin flavor as the banana cream pie lack the banana flavor.
My only complaint is I wish I could give them 17 stars! The owner Janet and her daughter are some of the sweetest, hard working (also very beautiful) women I have ever met. The Caribbean woman in the front is definitely a weirdo, and the Ecuadorian guy is definitely a creep, but it’s a bakery what do you expect? There is nowhere in the world that comes close to this place, Eli’s cheesecake is like dollar store cat food compared to their stuff. Everything is amazing, every time. I will not buy a cheesecake unless it’s from them. Thank you Janet , you and your daughter are dynamite ladies and make mom and pop shops are a shining example of why Chicago is so great!

Absolutely a must cake place for any Chicagoan! Today was the third time we got a cheese cake, and it was nothing short of a marvelous experience. The cake was flavorful, with a balanced taste, sweetness and the right texture for a cheese cake.So far we had the Plain, Chocolate Fudge and Pecan Caramel, each unique and amazing.
If you have visited enough restaurants and bakeries, as we have, you know the feeling. Some places have everything on the menu that you could ever desire, and then some. Some places don't. So imagine my reaction when I walked into JR Dessert Bakery. Located at 2841 West Howard Street in Chicago, west of California, east of Francisco, in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, across the street from Evanston, this family-owned bakery was founded by Janet Rosing in 1979 and has been run by Janet and daughter Natalie since 2015. It specializes in cheesecakes, cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, tarts and pastries and caters to restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and grocery stores. Open from 8 to 5:30 Monday through Friday and 9 to 5 on Saturday, JR Bakery rang a lot of bells for us. We left with a dozen oatmeal raisin cookies, a dozen chocolate chip with walnut cookies, a key lime pie, a German chocolate cake and a deep dish apple cobbler. My wife finally cut me off before I ordered some chocolate chip brownies and a pineapple coconut cheesecake. Wait until next time, she said. You don't find many bakeries like this anymore.
