Been passing this place for two years and finally got a chance to stop. Kicking myself for not making time sooner. Delicious fresh fish at a fair price with friendly service. I had the crispy fish sandwich and creole fries, both were piping hot from the fryer and so good that I finished both before they had time to cool. Looking forward to my next visit.
Been a family staple since I can remember, 30 plus years of good food and great smells. Went here one last time before moving from the state and it will be a place I visit every time I come back to Chicago. Sandwiches are awesome, hush puppies are delicious, and the fish chips....well always order a size bigger than you expect because there's never enough.
There were a few people ahead if me. I didn't have to wait long. The line moved quickly. Bought a pound of large and a pound of small fried shrimp for 2 people. That was just enough. And IT WAS DELICIOUS!
You have got to love this well-rounded fish house and market. Not only are the takeout options tantalizing, you can buy a whole dinner for your family, including sides and salad, pre-cooked or raw, easily.
This is a Jefferson Park gem that's been around forever and I can't bring myself to eat shrimp from anywhere else. Simply the best!! Even though we moved to the southwest suburbs we still go there a couple times a year.
Fantastic!!!Superb guys knowledgeable helpful courteous friendly...the man who took my order truly went the extra mile to offer plates napkins & forksit may not seem like much but to do business with people who consider your needs beyond the sale is a plus for me and i highly recommend Hagens...the food was fresh...wow lol i feel like going now!
I stopped in Hagen's today for the very first time and I'm sooo glad I did! Very warm & friendly staff, really great food, and really cool market options!I ordered smoked salmon candy, which tasted Perfectly smoked with just the right amount of salt, which for me means it's not overly salted. It was delicious!I also ordered a bunch of fried goodies, including smelts, lake perch, scallops, calamari, cheese curds, and hush puppies. I loved that each were breaded with different taste & style of breading, which for me, allowed the fish to shine! And this breading was not heavy, to hide anything, like some places! The fish was fresh & excellent quality! And, To my surprise & delight, this fried food traveled well, as I live a little over 30 minutes away!Lastly, the market itself! I felt like I was in a little town shop outside of the city for some reason and I loved that! They had so many interesting items, like the gooseberry preserves I picked up! I've only ever seen gooseberries in certain fruit markets, but never tried them but thanks to Hagen's Fish Market - I get to try them out in some form!I will definitely go back to Hagen's - whether I'm in the area or I take a special trip - especially for that smoked salmon candy!!
Stopped in today for some fried seafood snacks and this place didn’t disappoint. Clean shop, friendly service, and very tasty shrimp and smelt. I’ll be back to try the scallops and fish chips next.
I discovered this absolute gem of a spot by happenstance due to occasionally working in the area. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They have a large variety of sauces, canned goods, crackers, etc. (basically whatever you could possibly want to go with a seafood meal). Behind the counter, they also have an amazing variety of fresh seafood, in-house smoked fish, and salads.But the star of the show, for me, is their takeout menu. I've had the shrimp po boy, the crab cake, and fried clam strips - all of which were excellent. The prices are great too. The last time I was there, I was craving calamari but also wanted a sandwich. I asked if they could substitute calamari for the shrimp in the po boy. The lady behind the counter was super nice and accommodating, as they always are there. Best seafood sandwich of any kind that I've ever had in my life!10/10 would reccomend to anyone. We need to preserve these small neighborhood spots at all costs before there's nothing left but Jewel, Marianos, and Whole Foods on every corner. Great food, great service, great people.
