I originally wanted a burger & polish from this place but they were sold out. So I ended up getting some fried chicken instead. WOW! They seasoned that chicken very well. It was A little dry but I had some Chik-Fil-A sauce and that worked out well but they put some good seasoning on that chicken. If they season their burgers the way they do their chicken I see why they were sold out.
I ordered the baked chicken dinner with green beans and 2 sides of dressing. I received canned greens and dressing without any gravy. I am so disappointed and wanted to give Dan’s another chance but this has become an ongoing issue. It is always an issue. Either their original cooks no longer work there or this is just intentional at this point. Complete carelessness. Then when you try to call no one answers + the mailbox is full. I feel like if you truly value your customers you’d make improvements instead of allowing lazy cooks to destroy your business
I ordered the turkey & dressing. The turkey was ok, but I was really disappointed in the dressing. I expected a firm, favorable, and textured serving, but got sagey, soupy, inedible mess instead. I also ordered the pot roast. The roast was ok, but some of the red and black eyed peas were undercooked (hard). I wish I'd followed my first instinct to cook at home after eating only a portion of this food.I give an "A" for timely delivery.
I just had a sweet tooth so I looked online and their desserts looked great. This is what I got store brought bundt cake. I am a baker and I have been to culinary school the cake is definitely store brought advertise that please. My favorite banana pudding I'm so disappointed thick and gridy like just leaves a bad after taste ugh ? so sad
First time eating and it was horrible. My Mac n cheese was runny, the dressing was horrible, tasted like sage, the madh was good but all over my chicken. I'm mad cause I was really hungry. I'll never eat from them again. And it was pricey so it should have been good but instead it was very nasty. I ended up throwing it away. 35 dollars down the drain.
Ridiculously overpriced! $33!!Had short ribs dinner with dressing as my base with greens and cabbage as my sides. The short ribs were just mediocre and some of the meat even had the texture of pot roast ?. The greens had too much of a chew/crunch - they didn't seem like fresh (vs canned) to me and lacked flavor. The cabbage tasted sweet and lacked flavor. This was my first time ordering from here. I will not be returning. I have had much better short ribs, better sides and at a lower cost elsewhere.
The pandemic has truly affected their ability to produce authentic soul food. No one wants canned collard greens, correctme if i am wrong. If that was the case, I could go to Jewels and purchase a can of "Glory" greens. Their steam table was adorned by a pan of dried out mac n cheese from the previous day. Presentation is everything!!!!. I wasted $25 on a Turkey wing and dressing meal. The turkey wing was under cooked and tough. The dressing was dry and crumbly. The gravy was thick and lumpy. They were ....quote on quote... out of Cranberry sauce. The guy behind the counter said they couldnt locate s vendor. Hello..... go to GFS... or Sams Club. The best part of my meal was the yams and corn muffin. Everything else was fit for the garbage container. I was disappointed ?
You can not and do not risk.Ordering here an 1 1/2 or 2 hours before closing, I assure you they will serve you microwave heated slop!! NO DOUBT. I will never do that again.. the meal was for my grandmother whom raved about this place unfortunately.
I know everyone has their fav soul food in Chicago but this is a decent contender. I went with the classic fried chicken, mac and cheese and corn bread and wasn't disappointed. I did take out and service was great. There was parking on the street available too. I went at an off peak time so I didn't have to wait too long.
I discovered Dan's when the soul food place about a mile away was under new management. Let me tell you something, the turkey was anything but dry. The greens were perfect and so were my sweet potatoes. Not a single complaint. I LOVE Dan's.
