Their birthday cakes used to be the best but their service have always been lousy and terrible. We tolerate it because the cake was good and moist. So for my daughters 3rd birthday, we asked for a specific cake and their response was I can’t guarantee you’ll get it, it’s whatever the baker makes. We asked to put happy birthday Hannah on the cake. This is what we got. A melted gel of a mess. What is this? The wording is mush and I can hardly see her name. This is beyond terrible and we will never order from here again.
The Portuguese custard tart is better here than in Lisbon, Portugal - the origin of this treat!
The service is always fast and the food is always fresh. They have a decent crowd so if you want any of the coconut items, be sure to get there right after open. Payment is cash only but they do have an ATM located in the store that has a service fee. Love their mooncakes and the take-home dim sum.
The best steamed buns I've ever had! Highly recommend everything here and don't forget to buy some frozen goods to take back home for later
Early morning visit on a Wednesday. Not to busy. Large selection to choose from. I got about 6 different items, as I was buying for a group. We had buns, steamed buns and rice crepes. Everything was delicious. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.
Love the mini lotus moon cakes here! I don't have a big sweet tooth so it's the perfect bite of sweetness for me. Recently tried a beef curried bun and it was fantastic! I'm also in love with the taro buns and my husband as well so much so he sent me to pick up a large order of them. Call ahead for large orders so they can save things for you to make sure you can get your favorites! Looking forward to exploring more sweet and savory treats from this bakery!
Nothing can go wrong with Mochi w/Peanuts! It’s superbly delicious!
This is a cash only business. There is, however, a ATM in the store if you lack the necessary cash. This is a re-visit after 20+ years for a Dec. 1 - Dec. 5 Chicago food trip. Recent world and supply crises have deteriorated the food offerings. There seems to be less stuffing in the steamed baos, and missing some previously included ingredients; prices have risen quite a bit; value to price ratio has dimished. Despite that, the taste of the items remain very good, hence the 4 star rating. Compared with the Pacific Northwest where I came from, the overall quality and value is very much up there.Though not a sweets person, I must applaud the egg tarts for their crusts especially. Worth a try for anyone. The lotus mini moon cakes are a dissapointment - too expensive and with an uninspired taste. The baos are above average in taste and texture. The big surprise was the carrot (or more accurately, white radish) cake. You can see and taste the finely julienned raddish in the cake, and the firmness and flavor were excellent. Suggest you get the big pan instead of the pre-fried slabs so you can pan fry it at home to your desired crispiness. The baked curry beef buns remain nostalgic. Overall, a worthwhile visit for the food. There are a lot of varieities that you can try out to determine your favorites.Consider visiting its sister store (The one I visited more frequently in the past as I lived close to it.) near north next to the Argyle CTA train station as an alternative.HAPPY EATING and stay safe!
