The atmosphere is great if you’re looking for a more casual Spanish restaurant. The server was very helpful with how much food to order (since it’s mostly smaller plates) and even advised which order we should have them come out. The food was delicious and the chef even came out to talk to us for a moment, he is clearly very passionate about what he does! The tables are a little small so it was a little bit difficult with so many small plates, but the server was great about trying to time the dishes so they came out as we were finishing up the previous plate. The white sangria was good, but less flavorful than past white sangrias I’ve had.
I’ve dined at Bocadillo Market several times, mostly for a morning coffee, and once for dinner. The quality of what they serve is consistently delicious and their flavors are powerful yet easy to appreciate for a wide range of tastes (I’m looking at you, saffron chocolate chip cookie and squid ink paella). The space itself is modern and refreshing without sacrificing warmth and comfort. But what I love most about Bocadillo is the genuine care and hospitality of the staff. The chef stepped out and introduced himself to me and my friend and genuinely asked about our meals, even introduced me to other cooks behind the scene. In the morning, the barista is kind and down-to-earth. It’s good to know how deeply folks care about food here, and it’s the kind of place where you can tell they want to invite you into a good experience over a good meal. Whether it’s a coffee date or dinner with good friends, I’d recommend this spot as a decadent yet unpretentious time to enjoy good food with good people.
Interesting place. We ordered a few of the small plates and then a large shareable. The small plates weren't bad. The octopus and scallops were pretty tasty and cooked right. The paella threw us off. We were expecting rice and there isn't any. I've never had squid ink so the plating scared me where I didn't bother trying it. Sangria-literally no alcohol. Not sure if they just put juice.
What a phenomenal restaurant with great people! Highly recommend you go, and make a reservation as it was hopping on a Thursday night. As someone with celiac disease, Chef Jeff and his team took great care to ensure I could enjoy my meal, he reached out personally prior to our night as well. Also huge shout out to Bailey and the forthcoming new cocktails, she made our night, helping us choose the best dishes (they are all great). The paella was life changing! I cannot wait to go back.
Extraordinary meal- fantastic ingredients- gorgeous space- would love to come again. Certainly on the pricier end (likely $25+ per person after tax/tip for a simple entree) but very high quality
Excellent Spanish tapa’s, cool casual atmosphere. Everything was delicious, very interesting combination of flavors.
Tremendous thoughts and efforts put behind each dish, with just a few minor flaws that obscured the chef’s brillianceFavorites:• iberico pork - must try; pork was so tender and flavorful, cabbage was cooked perfectly, and the sharpness of pickled snap peas just brightened the whole dish• artichoke - love the gnocchi and mushroom in it, the three kinds of sauces were not only pretty but also well balancedOK dishes:• croquetas - well fried, can taste the umami from mushroom with exactly the right amount of aioli; inside almost too creamy/mushy for me, would prefer a bit more texture• clams & hake - salsa verde was great; unfortunately hake was not fresh and tasted like cardboard, clams slightly overcooked• spanish root vegetable pisto - love the richness of duck egg yolk; there were some raw after tastes in the root vegetables, wish those were broken down moreWill not order again:• paella - wayyyy too salty; the chef was able to pack a lot of umami and depth into the dish with squid ink, however the overwhelming saltiness just ruined the good intention• almond pie - flavor was good comfort food wise; crust was so hard and difficult to cut even with a fork and a knife
Amazing and authentic Spanish food! As a Spaniard I always struggle to find good quality food from Spain, but I can guarantee this place is incredible. 100% recommended. I also had the opportunity to speak to Chef James after my meal to congratulate him, and hearing what he had to say about his love and understanding of Spanish cuisine was very touching. Made my day! Gracias Bocadillo Market!
Wonderful experience. Food was phenomenal and the ambience in the back patio was very pleasant. Very friendly service as well. Looking forward to round 2!Verdict - would go back & recommend to friends.
Attended an amazing private event here. Food and service is literally phenomenal. Whether you want a nice dinner in their patio or enjoy all of the Spanish culture of Spain this is a gem in the heart of Lincoln Park. You won’t regret coming !
