OMG! This place is ???! Stop everything and get their fish tacos on homemade corn tortillas. It was even good left over the next day. The menu is simple. The food is good. The service is fast. End of story.
Went on a Tuesday night (July 5th) around 9 and the place was pretty empty- but it shouldn’t be an excuse for what happened next. The seating staff is friendly but the one that attended me never asked how were things going and other staff were just playing their phones.Speaking of the food, I went there many times and the quality of the food declined to a level that I think there was something going on in the kitchen. Al pastor came with the pork that was dry and obviously overcooked, meaning not juicy at all. Fish taco, same thing, the frying powder outside the fish has a larger size than the fish itself. The only thing good is the sauce of the shrimp taco, quite refreshing. The drink isn’t impressive either. The most disappointing part is that the place used to be such a good place with good food, staff and vibe, just not any more.
Do not waste your time here. I would give zero stars if I could. The waitresses were completely rude. They give the tacos to the table on consolidated plates which just lead to everyone being confused who’s was who’s and incorrect orders. Also extremely over priced. You pay $52 for a pitcher that is all ice and the tacos were small as hell. Taco Bell looks like 5 stars compared to this place.
First time experience. Won't be back, won't take guests or suggest to go there. Picked up an order of nachos and a taco. The point of nachos is to essentially be a vessel for copious amounts of cheese. So if the nachos have almost no cheese, what's the point? Chips and topping flavor was just "okay". But again without cheese just not worth eating.I'm native Chicagoan but spent time on the west coast so for the fish taco i was expecting something along the lines of what you'd very commonly find in San Diego. But unfortunately, the taco was just sad and skint. Even the slaw was sad.I'm a bit of a foodie so it’s not great when you're left thinking that you'd have been better off walking a half block over over to taco bell instead.
Thoroughly inaccessible, they won't take a verbal order over the phone and insist you either order online or go to the carryout window, which is up some stairs outside, and they suggest you park a block away in order to get to said carryout window. Anyone with vision impairment or a physical disability that requires accessibility will not be able to get carryout, and dine in is still tricky. Very good food, a shame they're inaccessible to 25% of the population.
Nice fun bar right in front of Wrigley field. I was there on a Tuesday night in February with no baseball but the place was somewhat crowded.Staff is friendly and the tacos are good. Great place for beers/cocktails and a quick bite. Fun!
The salad and nachos are spot on! The location is literally across the street from Wrigley. I love that they have established local spots nearby. Street parking is not too bad on Addison.
Have been a longtime fan of Big Star, especially their fish tacos. Had the chance to try their Panza tacos which actually are now going to be a regular order. The queso was delicious too. All in all, a reliably good place to go to in Chicago. On the slightly pricier side. Service is friendly and warm.
Quality has really gone down since I went to the original 8 years ago. Not worth the price. Better tacos at literally any little Mexican restaurant in the area for much cheaper.
Maybe everyone was having an off day...I'm thinking if you're coming here to drink, it would probably be a good time. Because I'd have to be drunk to eat those tacos again. Service wasn't great either. Then they add on a 3% "hospitality supplement" to pay for their masks...which now that I think about it, I understand adding it as a separate line item...because they cannot raise the price of that garbage food and stay in business.
