Great spot for consistently good sandwiches. They sell their fresh baked bread, have a pretty extensive grab and go section, as well as desserts, smoothies, and a grocery section. Also, they have amazing vegan sandwich options! I highly recommend the King Oyster mushroom or the eggplant and tofu sandwiches. I was just looking for options for vegan friends that are visiting but I would definitely order again! They were that good.Metered street parking is available nearby and they do have a picnic table outside.
I got the #1 cold cut special and #2 BBQ. Overall Bahn mi was 4/10. The bread was good, but the meat and fillings leave much to be desired. It lacked traditional toppings that you would find in other bahn mi like fresh herbs, cucumbers, etc. The cold cut meat itself was lacking in flavors, were a bit skimpy, and I could not taste any pate. The price is a bit high at $8.95 + tax for what you get.
Banh mi’s do taste very good, but I did find on my ~10 visit or so here, that a small piece of plastic/plastic wrap was in my lemongrass pork banh mi, after biting into it. I honestly still think they have very tasty sandwiches, and would still go here, but they should lower the prices, not worth the $10 sandwich price, especially not if you find plastic in your sandwich meat.
Food was delicious, everything smelled amazing. Went for a classic Banh Mi sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bread was incredible, airy on the inside and flaky on the outside. Definitely recommend a stop in!
i got the banh mi dac biet, and i will say it’s not your typical banh mi. they use pickled onions (which i’ve never had in a banh mi before but it worked), there were no cucumbers (which usually gives it the CRUNCH if you don’t like jalapeños in yours), and i think there was only 2 meats in the sandwich? dac biet means special so i was expecting at least 3-4 meats. overall banh mi dac biet was giving bare minimum
Best vegan bahn mi, hands down. Maybe just best vegan sandwiches period, at least in Chicago. We've gotten both takeout and delivery from here and it has never disappointed, the lemongrass vegan sandwich is so amazing and is my go-to. I don't know what they do to those mushrooms but whatever it is they're doing it right lol. Nice little shopfront with some food items/desserts, although since we usually get delivery I've only tried a couple (and they were yummy). Can't wait to stop by here more in the summer while I'm out and about or to grab food for picnics or road trips.
Their sandwiches definitely aren't the best compared to Lotus Seed, but they are alright. They could use more flavoring, and should probably press the sandwiches in order to make them fit in the mouth easier. Good coffee and spring rolls. The inside is clean, and orders are made quickly except for when they are packed.
Crikey - Ba Le makes the absolute best Bahn Mi sandwich in Chicago. They bake their own bread and use only the freshest ingredients....and you gotta' try the Vietnamese iced coffee (Cafe sua da) too.
Food is great and love that they have vegan options!
3.25 Stars. I bought 2 types of Bahn Mi, they weren't bad, just regular. The ratio of veggies in them was kinda weird, and they were not hot even with the jalapenos.
