I grew up in Lincoln Park. I've been going to The Athenian Room for 40 something years. It is one of my favorite places on the Planet. I now live in Los Angeles, & all I can think about is how much I miss the taste of Home. Can you please send me the secret recipe for the Fries? ?
athenian room is a lincoln park staple! the food here is always good especially the roasted chicken. feta cheese and tzatziki sauce are incredible. honestly you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. the restaurant is cash only and doesn’t do beer or liquor. if you sit outside the bartender from glasscots will serve you drinks! great atmosphere and is always a favorite with visitors
My brother insisted we go here because Tina Fey once suggested it in an interview. It was nice eating someplace away from the Loop and I liked that the menu was small and to the point -- the feta was especially outstanding! Cash only.
Totally on of my Go TO Places. The food is always good, great service and a lively atmosphere . If you like Chicken , Gyros and Taramosalata , this is your place . Salads are good too
If God were to bless us with his presence from the heavens he would make his first visit to the Athenian Room. The staff are great from the moment you enter the restaurant they're greeting you with a smile and the food, FORGET ABOUT IT! This is a Chicago staple and for those who didn't enjoy it, take a walk down to McDonalds on Fullerton as that's probably a better fit for you.
After eating the Chicken Kalamata, I felt like I had to walk around the restaurant telling people to order it so they could taste what I had tasted - amazing juicy, crispy chicken bursting with lemon flavor. Cash only, bar next door with drinks.
Very delicious food! Highly recommend the Greek caviar. Would recommend eating it with pita though. You only get one pita so order two. I also go the skirt steak which comes with plenty of ou jus. My only complaint is that it was a little too salty. I would try the chicken dinner if I went back cause that looked good.
Had dinner here with a group of 6. Had to wait 20 minutes at the bar that’s next door/connected to the restaurant. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. The skirt steak dinner was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Karen was our server and she was amazing. Patient and quick and knew everything about the menu. Will definitely be back!!!
I’ve been coming here since the early 90’s. My favorite gyros of any Greek restaurant anywhere, and hands down best tzatziki sauce. Also, the Greek fries (in lots of olive oil, red wine vinegar) are amazing. Try their roasted chicken (love the shish kebabs too) and their avgo lemono rice soup in the winter. Quaint, casual, great, simple Greek neighborhood joint!
Worst unauthentic Greek salad ever! No peppers, no red onions, no oregano or feta cheese - just horrible plain iceberg lettuce with cold gyro meat thrown on top. I'll never go back there.
