I have been coming here since I was a child, as far back as I can remember. It's hard to describe the nostalgia seeing the distinctive roof appear on the horizon as I roll into my old hometown. The smell as I approach brings back summer evenings after baseball and Saturday meetups with friends. The feel of the wrapper, the heat of the chili burning through on one side and the sound of the crinkly paper is almost surreal. As I unwrap their signature chili dog I marvel at the perfect nature of the sandwich, contained and shaped just-so as it melds seemlessly into my hand. The aroma wafts up and beckons me to that first bite. JOY. I love these chili dogs. I don't mean weinerschnitzel chili dogs, those aren't magic. I love THESE ones, the ones in Champaign, IL. The ones my grandparents ate, my parents, our friends and families. The ones I got to eat with my kids today. Thank you for years and generations of memories!!!!
Great Food, reasonable prices! I highly recommend their Strawberry Lemonade, they put real purred Strawberry Fruit or Pineapple fruit in the bottom of the glass and add the lemonade! Absolutely the Best tasting ever!
Tried the new veggie Chicago dog. Delicious! There was a regular Chicago dog for comparison, and the verdict was the veggie dog had a better flavor. It was a little smoky, could have used more sport peppers but that's just my opinion, and I would say it tasted more like a higher quality beef hot dog, this was also confirmed by the meat eater. Would buy again. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to cross the street to get fries since Weinerschnitzel cooks theirs in lard.
Chili Cheese dog is still the best one I've ever tasted. Their fries , as long as they are fresh out.of the fryer are better than McDonalds.Now the downside.....the service. At best its indifferent and slow. At worst its uncaring and very slow.
Best corn dogs in CU - a classic. And now they have ice cream too!
Mmmmm it's been years since I lived in San Diego I had a great chilli dog. This place is awesome and the food is freaking delicious ?...definitely coming back soon. So thanks Illinois for getting something good in the area..
It has been several years since Wienerschnitzel left my area. It was my favorite place to go for chili cheese dogs as well as my husband's. We went there on our first date.. My husband and I were in Champaign this past weekend which is 3 hours away from our home. We had to stop-was on our to-do list. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. The chili cheese dogs were delicious-the fries perfection and the owner was kind enough to open the dining room for us even though he was understaffed.
Friendly service, fresh hot food. Tasted great. Restaurant and grounds were run down and need cleaned and freshened up.
Drive-thru on a weeknight. Ordered two Polish sandwiches and two medium fries. There was a long line, but it moved as quickly as any other fast food place. Would have preferred bread more toasted, but I didn't ask for it, so won't hold it against them.
Good food. Priced reasonably. Worth the money. The chili fries were very good.
