Although the food was good, the prices are downright unreasonable. My friend and I paid over $100 for 4 small dishes, averaging $27.95 each - I'm speechless. This was my second time coming to Golden Harbor and I definitely agree that it was significantly better before COVID. Will probably not be coming back unless prices come back down from the sky.
We ordered the stew diced pork belly on rice for lunch. But the meat tastes sour. When I raised my concern to a staff member, he simply walked away and never returned to our table. I have been ordering food from GH for many years. While I appreciate their effort in bringing authentic Taiwanese cooking to C-U, the freshness of their ingredients is getting worse.
My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time recently. Upon walking in, we were greeted and given an explanation of how everything works. You get your menus and an order pad, so it's nice to sit and take your time to figure out what you want to order without the pressure of a server, and write it down yourself. Whenever you're ready to place the order, you go up to the counter, the person there will review and you pay accordingly. On this trip we ordered a plate of Lo mein with shrimp, beef, and chicken, soup dumplings, and bbq pork buns. I wasn't really sold on the pork buns but everything else was incredible. Brought to our table hot and fresh (and very quick!) the large portion of lo mein was probably enough to serve 6-8 people, and the soup dumplings were absolutely to die for.The price point is high, but definitely worth it in my opinion. The menu is huge, so there really is something for everyone. The dining room is clean, well kept, and not overwhelming. The tables are plenty big and spaced out, they have lazy susans on the larger tables to place the food on, so that's pretty convenient when you order a lot, or if you were to bring in a large group to share. There is complimentary hot tea, which was a really nice addition. They literally have everything you might need in the way of silverware, chopsticks, tea pots.... the list goes on.I thought the experience was great overall and we will be returning. The customer service was absolutely fantastic and the food worth it!
My boyfriend and I used to love this place, but after my experience tonight, I will not be ordering again. We ordered the chicken and broccoli with fried rice ($25), a side of 2 egg rolls with sweet and sour sauce ($6), and pork belly on rice ($25). When the food was delivered to us, they had given us white rice instead of fried, not nearly enough pork belly to justify the price of $25, and a container of sweet and sour sauce that was only filled up about 1/2 an inch of sauce. The food alone cost $56, and after delivery fee and other fees, I paid $75 to be hugely disappointed and I feel very taken advantage of.
This is a great place to order delivery from through Grubhub, they get orders ready fast usually within 10-15 minutes they also have their own insulated hot bags they put your order in if it’s ready before the driver arrives so it stays warm and they send the driver a notification as soon as it’s ready for pickup so the driver knows when to enter the restaurant. Very nice and smooth how they do things they’re pretty quick and efficient even during busy evening hours.
The place is great and friendly staff. However, I didn’t really like the food except the tofu. Thought some menu items were overpriced and didn’t deliver the value I hoped to get.
I cannot say enough about this place. Itnis the closest restaurant we have been to in the states that we experienced in China. We always get a big spread then take days of food home. The table tea is on point. If you haven't been before, ordering is confusing. Grab a menu and a tablet. There are American and Authentic Chinese menus. Write the number of what you want. Take it to the window and pay. There will be a $1.75 per person charge for table service. No tips. Then sit down with your number and wait for your food. Leave all your dishes on the table.
I have been here many times. The quality of the food is still amazing me each time, and the price remains very reasonable. This restaurant is my first choice in Champaign (although we have so many great restaurants here!).
Favorite Chinese restaurant in town!!! Love #55 Scheswan beef and noodle soup and spicy green beans. We have leftovers for days.
We were visiting for the day and took a chance. The food is wonderful. I want to move to Champaign now just to have access to good authentic Chinese food. Loved everything about this place...good food casual setting no pretense. A+
