Crust tasted pre made, sauce and toppings were great. Overall food was great. Establishment needs to spend some serious time clean the place up, tables were sticky, trash on the floor, cook needs to wash his apron it’s actually quite greasy looking. Order person did a great job, and was very knowledgeable, top marks.
So, I’ll preface this review by saying that I grew up in urbana so garcias was always a favorite for me. I used to visit the location on wright st and green st on campus. The only location left is on prospect and I’d heard dot so great things about the location. I was in town for a funeral ☹️ And I’m now eating vegan so no more meat or cheese for me. So, I wondered, “how will it be without those two items”? Well, I got the custom slice, remove the cheese, got extra sauce and loaded it with veggies and it was yummy! I got a side of sauce as well and the breadsticks with no butter. It really was a yummy slice. The location is an older building so don’t expect much and the pinball machine stole my dollar but I was still happy as the food was good. I’ll be back the next time I’m in Illinois! Thanks for accommodating my dietary restrictions!
Any time we go through or around Champaign a pick up from Garcia's is a must since they abandoned Bloomington normal decades ago (except for the couple years they came back to downtown Bloomington). A local favorite for many the large deep dish take out was stellar as usual, and individual gut busters just as remembered. Inside of the restaurant leaves a little to be desired, very dated, slightly run down, dead plants and not very clean. But the pizza is still on point and that's what counts! C- on atmosphere, A+ on the food.
I was a huge fan of Garcia's in the late 70s and 80s. The Wright St and Green St locations were great. Sorta drifted away, but I have been to the Mattis St location twice this month and its pretty close the way I remember it back in the day.
Still great pizza! Even if the building is showing signs of neglect. Same great taste as 50 years ago on campus. Have to make the trip to Mattis now but worth the trip. Dont be put off by the building.
Just had the weirdest experience. We were driving through Champaign & my daughter had a craving for pizza. I used to love Garcia's when it was in Bloomington 20+ years ago so thought I'd introduce her.First, the parking lot was not plowed of snow & a mess. Still eager, we walked in.The doors were unlocked & the fire was going. The building was very dated. There was no one in sight. Very strange. I called behind the counter & saw a lady duck behind a counter. I just asked if they were opened & no response.Disappointed, we left & went to Monical's to good food & service. Guess it is not what it used to be.
The place was nearly deserted when my mom and I went in, and the folks at the counter completely ignored us. I know they couldn't have missed us since literally no one else was in the restaurant. From what I've read from the other reviews, looks like we didn't miss much.
The food was okay, it did not have a lot of flavor and the bottom was burned in spots. Inside the restaurant is filthy and needs some love. It's a sad restaurant and it's sad to see any place in this rough of shape.
It wasn't what we were expecting. Plus the crust was so hard we couldn't cut or bite through it. The taste of the toppings, cheese and sauce were okay. Just expected to get more of an actual pizza than a soup with pizza sauce and pepperoni
We had the thick crust pizza. Unfortunately it was not very good. The crust tasted like nothing. The toppings were good but we had breadsticks too and had garlic butter that tasted like it needed garlic. It just wasn't very good. Not like I remember it from years ago.
