Went from being the best Mexican place to a place I never want to go to again. Sure the new location is spacious and nice but man did the food quality go out the window. Seems like they're skimping and adjusting recipes to make more money. Not to mention the unfriendly staff and they didn't even leave the safety glove on my faitja tray so my hand bumped it and I got burned, not just a little burn either, it's been hurting for days. I'm so sad and disappointed with what this place has become.
Went here because my boyfriend wanted to try it. Walked in and saw they had a full bar and there was an empty alcoholic beverage glass sitting on the counter, as if someone had just finished drinking it. I ordered three steak tacos and a soda, apparently they don't serve alcohol and I find that funny because WHY do you have it if you're not serving it? The English isn't very good here and the service is dependent on if they think you'll tip them or not. Hate that my boyfriend left any type of tip but the tacos were dry as hell and I've had better at Don Taco. Definitely not going back.
The chips were ok but seemed store bought. The server was horrible she acted angry about being at work was almost impossible to get her attention and we ran out of salsa and drink and she was hard to find to get more. I ordered the street tacos ...they came out looking sad and they tasted worse. The meat was ok but the taco tasted like wet soggy microwaved tamales. And the prices are way to high for the quality of food. My first and last time here
The food was good, that's the only reason for the 3 stars. There were 4 parties at the restaurant and 3 waiters. Still yet, our waitress didn't show up once to check on us. I had to walk up front to get what i ordered and flag another waitress down for a refill. We waited for a good amount of time for our check. She wasn't to be found. So we left what we owed according to the menu on the table, including a good tip. Went to the store next door and when walking to our car, the waitress comes storming out and accuses us of dine and dash. So 20 minutes after we left, she was still not at the table, otherwise she would have seen the money. She ordered us back in to walk to the table with her. No apology or anything of the kind. My boyfriend is the better person, bcs he left the tip anyways. Worst service I've ever received.
So today I decided to give it a try at these place. We ordered our food it took awhile to get. When we got the food with my plate I received flour tortillas witch I'm not a fan so I ask my waitress to change for corn . To begin she n ver asked. But she gave me a angry face look and I asked her. Then to make matters worse my daughter had asked for a cheese quesadilla and she got chicken. She doesn't eat chicken. And when I told the waitress about the error she started arguing with me. She said that she had written down chicken and that was what it was. I told her I had said cheese and she continued to arguing. There was no apologies. The service was terrible and the food presentation speaks by itself. I immediately left and had to pay for my plate witch I didn't finish because I got mad. The waitress didn't want to give me her name but the receipt said Maribel. I asked her to speak to the manager and she said that the manager was not in. Terrible terrible service
El Paisano became our favorite place to go to eat. Best Mexican restaurant in South Illinois and Western Kentucky in my experience as a 40 year resident of New Mexico. Good selection and friendly staff.Sort of lived on their Lunch Special with your choice of entree for a week. My choice was their Chile Poblano (Chile Relleno) with a delicious roasted red sauce.P.S. Lunch menu and special not available on Sunday, but the similar dinner special is!
amazing food, cheaper then fast food and better
Food was pretty good, but our server was less than stellar. She just didn't seem happy and wasn't very pleasant. One of our orders had been messed up, and when we mentioned it to her, she argued for a minute and then realized that the order was, in fact, wrong. Ordered a gin and tonic and somehow got something entirely different, though in the servers' defense, the ticket did say Gin and Tonic on it. Overall, it was a decent experience.
This restaurant used to be my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in town. I realize the pandemic caused a lot of restaurants to have to make some big changes, but I’ve tried the new location twice now and have been disappointed each time. Plus, the constant Christian music playing from the speakers doesn’t help. It just doesn’t feel like the same restaurant that made me feel at home when I first came to Carbondale.
Very friendly staff. They take apple pay. Strong cold margaritas! The cervesa was cold. Crisp. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
