The food is very expensive and the large menu can be very daunting. We had a reservation for a table but they gave us a high top, and when we asked for a table they put us next to the bathrooms. It was an awkward location and I would have preferred sitting in an aisle where everyone walked past us. I had the sweet and chili chicken katsu which was average but not the best.
I loved the place!! The food was amazing! Chris was so nice and let me tell you, he read my mind, his recommendations nailed it.
Always spectacular. Great service, great atmosphere, great cocktails, and incredible sushi.
Good food, drinks so so but the 90-minute rule is terrible. You got hour and half to eat and get out. You can see that they are focused on making money... Four of us spent $400 on food and drinks and right after ordering last drinks we were asked to leave. Never been in restaurant that got time limit. Not going back because of it.
Great place. The food was awesome. Rack of lamb is a great appetizer choice and a specialty vulcano roll is amazing. Will come back for sure.
We are a regular at Shakou and have eaten at all of their locations within Chicagoland. It is almost impossible to get a table here unless you make reservations weeks ahead of time.Their food is always fresh and delicious. You can get anything here and will enjoy it. Some of our favorite dishes here are Urban Heat, Dragon fire, Firecracker shrimp (fried jumbo shrimps), and Madori roll. No matter what else we get we have to eat these when visiting.The restaurant is upscale and the prices are high. They have a lot of drink options but can also get just plain whiskey. Try their Japanese whiskey as it has a nice kick to it.One tip for Costco members. You can buy $100 worth gift cards for $80. That's an immediate 20% discount. Or in other words a free entree.Overall, we love going here and highly recommended it.
The fusion style is nice - very different from a traditional Japanese restaurant. The food portions are sufficient for typical American appetite. Food is not the best/most authentic Japanese food around. But, it's supposed to be fusion - not traditional Japanese. Overall, a decent experience.
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Every time we attend dinner at this location the services seem to get worse and worse. Even if you have a reservation the hostess will make you wait to be seated. Then the hostess will be beyond rude to you. This past weekend (12.3.21) the manager and a group of servers made me, and my group feel very uncomfortable. Shakou has a very "strict" 90-minute table rule. We were 15 minutes past our allotted use of table time and instead of someone approaching our table, the staff and manager decided to stand in a group and stare at us. This made us extremely uncomfortable, but it let them achieve their goal of removing us. This was not our waiter’s fault at all. I was tired of being stared & pointed at, so we stopped our waiter got the check & left.Shakou has great sushi options, and the rolls are always amazing, but the services are so terrible that it is not worth it to eat here. I would suggest carry out, but you might still have to deal with the staff so PASS. Unless they have contactless pickup or bring to the car I would enjoy another location!
Food is great, but Don the bartender is the best! He really takes care of his patrons..makes a great drink too
Can't go wrong if you want some delicious asian dishes with a twist!
