Four stars not five because of the rude treatment, comment by the owner. Totally unacceptable. I arrived 15 minutes early to pick up an online order (without realizing I was early) and when my bread pudding was not yet ready the owner (lady) chastised me for arriving early in front of everyone in the store. “That’s why we say 8:30!” After waiting around for 15 minutes I was then politely told it would be another 30 minutes before my order would be ready. Okay, I don’t mind waiting or even returning, the pastries at Janjou are delicious, but I can’t get past the rude treatment. Janjou puts out fantastic pastries, but no pastry is worth the condescending, rude treatment I received today. Maybe the owner was having a bad day. Or maybe she could pull of that type of behavior in a big urban city like NYC, but not in Boise, Idaho folks. We are a friendly city. ;)
Pure perfection and artistry in every way. The best croissant I’ve ever had - light, airy with beautiful lamination. The americano was fantastic as well. All around 10/10.
By happenstance I discovered Janjou while passing through Boise. Being a baker and knowing what it takes to make exquisite pastries and how much it costs to source excellent ingredients, I was ok with the pricing of the fine pastries. The young woman taking our order was friendly and courteous. But the gruff, sharp toned co-owner's loud comments to her about an inventory issue cast a definite chill over the whole room, adding to the frigid temperature of the shop on a cold, rainy day. His curt remarks compounded tensions in what could - and should - have been a most memorable culinary highlight. Product earned 5+ stars, owner attitude a 0 to 1.
Absolutely amazing. I've been to bakeries all over the world and this is truly one of the best. Quaint, petite, exquisite, wonderful. I will tell everyone I know and even those I don't that this is the best place to find the perfect pastry and café.
Look out for this special order, Egg and green croissant. =)I love their croissant and I want something savoury so this is just perfect for me! =)Love the people here too, they are very nice and friendly.
OMG! This place is as amazing as everyone said! So glad I took time to visit! The staff was super friendly & helpful! I will definitely return to try everything they make!
So glad I stopped here for breakfast! I wanted to eat absolutely everything here. Highly recommend their packs of fresh cookies, some of the tastiest ones I've had!
