Kunio is a favorite of friends & mine. yesterday May 2nd was disappointing tho !!!1) No butterfish, which 2 friends were ono for2) "appetizer" dish has edamame, crab salad, & gobo. presentation not as nice as usual. servings were less than usual. i did not eat my gobo as it looked like someone's 1/2 eaten leftovers !!! ?i showed the waiter & his response was "oh, I didn't make it."guessing normally conscientious kitchen workers were not working ???anyway, our group of 4 ended up ordering same thing - teri beef shrimp tempura combo. teri beef had more fat than normal.hot tea usually offered but wasn't ?left Kunio not as content as usual, meh ...But there's always next time & we'll hope for The Best ???
Restuarant Kunio is a very popular restaurant. After the initial long wait (Friday lunch), we were quickly seated and served. It is well worth the wait and I highly recommend them.if you enjoy butterfish, you will love it at Restaurant Kunio!
Found this restaurant near where we live. My daughter likes soba so we looked around and this restaurant offers it. I placed my order online, which is super convenient, and easy to navigate. My only complaint is that I wish they had photos of each item so we can see exactly what we are purchasing. We went in to pick up our order and the restaurant was nice, clean, and the staff were friendly.Food was pretty good. Daughter said soba is bland, not much flavor. The sushi is good but the portion is a bit small. The side of beef teriyaki was really good but on the small side for how much it costs.Would go back in the future for sushi.
Took some friends from the mainland here for dinner. There was only one cook on duty and they were pretty busy. Our friends got the lobster tail. One was acceptable the other not so much. Wife and i had sushi rolls and the kids got the keiki plates. Our sushi was ok, but not great. Kids food was good. Service was great, our waiter made the experience worth it. Prices are a bit high. There's better sushi on the island definitely. I think it would have been better if full staff were on hand.
Sizzling butter ribeye is so ono! It's that or the salmon and mixed tempura combo. Expect to wait at least 45 min at dinner time. Service is good and clean interior.
Went here to eat with my kids. First off (younger one orders udon) and she said it’s the best ever. So started off great. My older one gets oyakudon and as she’s picking through her food she finds a metal wire. We say something and she is extremely apologetic and remakes it. It’s fine, I’m thinking it’s an accident. I was not upset or anything at this point. I get my lunch sushi and it looks great, comes on a Little boat, smelled, looked fine, tasted good.At this point I can say (even with the metal wire) we would come back. Food took a little long but not that it bothered me.That’s not it though…Few hours later I start to feel funny. I honestly don’t know how to explain it but yucky inside. I just couldn’t place it. It’s not a headache, not quite a stomachache, what could this be? It was such a strange feeling but soon from this it went to full on excruciating pain. I was throwing up for couple hours then after that I went diarrhea into the early next morning. During this whole time I never knew there to be a pain like this. I was crying from the pain in my body. Not sure if anyone reading has had food poisoning but I didn’t realize what pain this causes and it’s more painful than headaches, stomachaches, flu all combined. The only thing I ate different from my kids for that day and few days before was my sushi lunch from this restaurant. I missed work the next day, I feel better now that I’m waking up from day 2 after. I just hope I don’t have worms now. I hope it’s all behind me?I will never eat here again.
I asked for water like 4 times and the waiter gave me a pitcher. 5 star service immediately. DA BEST ??????
This is my go to spot for dinner whenever I go to Waikele. The food is good, and reasonably priced. The sashimi is always fresh. Social distancing is observed and patrons are seated at every other table. There is usually a 20-30 minute wait to get seated.
Good izakaya establishment on the West side thats easy on the wallet. If you don't know what to order, just get the sushi boat. It's got everything from sushi to katsu, enough to feed 4 people with food to spare.
UPDATE: 10/5/21. * WARNING FOR INSIDE-DINING *: You can't eat here unless you show your vaccine card AND photo ID.Miso butterfish is always good ?
