Delicious, fast, and friendly service. Best meal for as soon as I landed in Kauai. Sooo many protein options from which to choose. The pickled veggies and sauces knocked it out of the park. I didn't make a pretty poke bowl, mostly because I was famished and didn't want to wait. Highly recommend. Glad I listened to friends and checked this place out.
I enjoyed my meal here, this is a to go place, no tables for eating here, so just know that when you order you will have to eat in your car or somewhere else. I got a good amount of fish and a salad. It was well prepared and didn’t take to long to come out. My meal was the ahi crusted fish in furikake. I would definitely return when I am back in town. Very reasonably priced for an island restaurant and serving good quality fish.
I was told I need to get the Furikake ahi salad be the local's. This furikake ahi salad is the best I've eaten! The local fresh salad with the dressing in one container and the furikake in a separate container so it doesn't burn the salad. The dressing for the salad totally completes this dish. Another great dish the the their ahi katsu plate. Not overcooked and their wasabi sauce is not spicy but adds a great flavor the the ahi. Their display had a lot of different types of poke and other items. When I'm there waiting for my plate, my eyes wonder over to the glass display. Their kiawe smoked salmon looks so impressive and is something i need to try. They also have some pre-made bentos and maki sushi that capture my attention as well. If I get all that I want from this place, I'm going to gain some serious weight. Give "The Fish Express" a try and you won't be disappointed!
Service was great! I got the wasabi shrimp and the ahi shoyu. Ahi was a bit too salty for my taste, but I think that comes down to preference. I thought the wasabi shrimp was dynamite though. Definitely worth a taste if you're nearby ^_^
Ran out of lots of pokes
Perfect poke
Coming from Canada where our Poke is trash this place was the Meka of raw fish. Walk in, pick your rice, choose multiple items from an ice cream parlor assortment of delicious ocean critters, then pick your toppings. Recieve your prize, sit down and have a cry, because you've reached poke perfection. We stayed on Kauai, came here 3 times in two days.
As expected, it was fresh and tasty poke. Being a resident of Hawaii and having tasted so many different poke, would necessarily call this the most delicious poke. Perhaps in Lihue but not necessarily in Kauai, in my opinion. Tamper your expectations…
Was recommended this poke place by locals, and it did not disappoint. They have a poke menu and another cooked fish based menu. We wanted to get one serving of each, But they stop serving the cooked fish at 2pm. You can choose 2 or 3 scoops of poke for your bowl for 1 dollar difference in price. We ended up getting two 3 scoop poke bowls (1: Maui onion, spicy lobster, spicy salmon and asparagus. 2: spicy ahi, wasabi shrimp, smoked salmon). After choosing your rice and seafood, they have plenty of toppings to choose from including seaweed salad, kimchee, pickled ginger, edamame and many more. It was a big portion for the price and so delicious. The smoked salmon was sweet and savory, it stood out as my fav. Poke is amazing everywhere on the island, but this had such a good variety of fish with fun toppings it is an easy pick and our fav so far.
Out of this world poke! This take out seafood deli in Lihue is in itself is worth a trip to Kauai! To the traditional Hawaiian poke of skinned and deboned raw fish served with usual condiments of sea salt, candlenut, seaweed, and limu, we added a bunch of toppings to our preferred bed of sushi rice.My favorite toppings were the tangy mango, cucumber and mussels. But everything from avocado to edamame would work to complement the high quality of the yellowfin tuna (Ahi) and yellowtail tuna (Hamachi). We came here twice in a row and took the bowls to a nearby beach for lunch. Can’t beat that!… almost forgot to mention that the service was also outstanding!!!
