Having been in Hawaii for a 10 night vacation this was the best food we had, having eaten in Japanese, Hawaiian, and seafood restaurants. Coming from the New York metropolitan area, which has a large Italian population and many good Italian restaurants, my expectations were not high for Italian cuisine in Hawaii. However, Tavernaâs Italian cuisine was delicious and the service attentive. The ambiance was lovely, and the mountain views and landscaping were beautiful. There also was plenty of parking in the restaurantâs lot. The only thing that needed improvement was the chairs, which although attractive, had hard, flat wooden, uncomfortable seats. Cushions would resolve that issue. The banquet seats, if you were seated on that side of the table, were cushioned and comfortable.
The food is VERY over priced for what it is, my wife got the Insula Del Mar $40.00 for for 2 shrimp one half of a 3inch rock lobster there wasnât any salad to it was maybe a 4âx 4â plate with almost nothing on it ! Really come on!
Surly hostess. Abysmal service. Entrees (short rib and spaghetti carbonara) were quite good but the meatball appetizer had the consistency of hamburgers. They had a nice beer selection but they were out of so many, I had to settle for my fourth (!) choice. Our drinks sat on the bar for some time before being delivered, so I eventually walked up to the bar and grabbed them myself. (Iâve NEVER done that before. Low-rent move, I know, but it had to be done. I understand times are toughâlabor market and other extenuating circumstancesâbut this place probably hasnât earned a second try from us.
Weâve eaten here before and really enjoyed it. My son has Celiac and I had read they have gluten free pasta. 8 months ago, the service was outstanding. This timeâ¦not so much. I was laughed at by our server who even shook his head when I ordered an Aperol Spritz. Hmm. My poor son was embarrassed and made to feel shamed for being celiac. The server would only keep telling us (and in a belittling way) what would have gluten and things our son couldnât eat. Which most restaurants would easily accommodate items so he could dinner. He even brought desert menus for three of us and excluded my son saying chef says nothing for Celiacs on the desert menu. Since when did gelato have gluten?! So rude we basically ate and just wanted to leave. Which is a horrible thing given the cost, and priceless family time going out to a nice dinner. Very disappointed.
Mehâ¦.. mediocre food and service. Fantastic views
Great food and service. Noisy and loud music from the bar. Was looking forward to a nicer ambiance, but this wasn't it.
We had the caprese salad, which was good it needed a little salt. We also had the Mahi Mahi special and the frito misto, of which both were over cooked. Along with that my daughter had the carbanara of which the noodles were undercooked. The sad thing is the best thing was the bread and olives. The service was great, came out fast Our server was nice always checked on us. The view was good to, itâs not the ocean though. I wished the music was a little quieter. Overall it was an okay experience.
Beautiful setting. Open air and a view of the golf course. Priced right for Maui. Service was impeccable and the food was excellent
Ignored in bar to order a beverage fir our party until dinner seating. It was terrible service. Dinner was delicious and our server was excellent!! Mixed feeling about overall experience.
Our waitress,Shannon made our experience awesome! Sheâs very authentic and understanding. Hope she sticks around a while, and here next time we visit Maui.
