The hostess was charming and the waiter and bartender were amazing! They were on top of everything and had great descriptions and knowledge of the menu and drinks. We had a fabulous time and will certainly go back again.

I was extremely disappointed in the ambiance. The minute I walked in, I wanted to go elsewhere but wanted to respect that I had made a reservation. I expected an old tiki Hawaiian feel but all it exuded to me was that I entered a cafeteria. There isn't even a bar to wait at before being seated. I couldn't see past the ambiance to enjoy my meal at the price point. I was also disappointed to learn that there was a prix fix menu available after I dined. It was not mentioned or on the menu. However, can say that the souffle, shrimp and pork gyoza were really good. Our server was very nice and professional. This is my first time at a Roy's. I really wanted to love it and would have ordered as such to get the full experience, if I felt the vibe.
Overall, not the same Roy's experience we've enjoyed all around Hawaii in the past 30 years. We had hyped this restaurant up to our kids, but this time things fell a bit short. Service was unexpectedly slow. Took almost 25 minutes for our initial drink order to come. We had already polished off the appetizers by that time. They were obviously short-staffed, as other patrons were wondering out loud where their drinks were. The meals were solid (short ribs, misoyaki butterfish, macadamia-nut crusted fish), both visually and taste-wise. The dark chocolate souffle was a nice finish. We were a little disappointed that our birthday occasion was not acknowledged, yet the honeymooning couple at the adjacent table was celebrated (even though they seemed to be arguing inexplicably throughout their entire meal...lol). Sorry to say we will be moving on next time.
