Truly the best restaurant in Maui! I say this having been to Mama’s, old Lahaina, Star Noodle, and a number of other highly rated places. The food is incredible, but that is just the start. The service is better than I have ever experienced before with very attentive staff who know the menu like the back of their hand and go over the top to make sure you have everything you need. Our server was Deb and the manager, Mark, stopped by multiple times too. Additionally, the views and general atmosphere are unmatched. The music playing throughout is the perfect background as you watch a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Lastly, booking a reservation is a very smooth experience. Whereas many places require you book several months in advance, they wait to release tables until 30 days before. They go quick, but you can put your name on the waitlist and they will text you the day before if there is an opening. You can call the restaurant directly too and they will do their best to fit you in. If all this fails, you can go to Monkeypod in Whaler’s Village, which has the same owner. The food is more casual, but still very good and they have the same incredible Mai Tais! We loved it so much that we went back for a second night and Mark made sure he could fit us in.
Been coming here for 20 years now. Happy hour on deck used to be a high point. No need for set menu anymore as COVID restrictions lifted. So why do they still have that? Food was good with one exception- the bread in bread basket tasted like pure salt. So if you don’t want to wake up the next morning with a boatload of water retention, don’t eat the bread!
Everything was wonderful! Such a beautiful sunset, great service, an everything was delicious. The waiter brought us a complimentary toast as it was our honeymoon. I'm sure they get MANY honeymooners everyday, so this was something that still made it special for us.
I tried for weeks to book into this restaurant, luckily for me there was a cancellation and we were able to book. Wow! I'm so glad that we got to go! It's such a lovely setting, we went in the evening when it was dark so couldn't see the ocean from where we were sat but were still located in a cosy spot. The food was fantastic, I honestly cannot fault it in any way. All the staff were welcoming, fingers crossed you can get a table!
Wow - Incredible and 100% worth it. Visited with friends and all of us loved the menu and service. Beautiful location, excellent food, and beautiful views. 100% would recommend. Excellent drinks and farm to table fare.
I agree with recent reviewers that Merriman's seems like a once-good restaurant that has fallen far from grace. If you want a fine dining experience on Maui, I recommend going instead to Lahaina Grill or Mama's Fish House where the food and service will exceed your expectations. In contrast, at Merriman's, both the food and service fell far from our expectations. None of the dishes were anything to write home about. Some did not taste great, others were under-seasoned, and the lava cake was more like an igneous rock. One of our dishes came out cold, and the staff did not really make amends to our satisfaction, especially given the price of the meal. We had a similar experience to a recent reviewer's where the restaurant was hosting a big party that seemed to throw the timing off in the kitchen, leading to poor spacing between courses. We did not feel that the restaurant valued our patronage, something we felt strongly at both Lahaina Grill and Mama's. It is clear that Merriman's needs an upgrade to both its menu and service. Until then, there are much better options on Maui for a great meal.
Hit or miss dishes with a fantastic staff and views. Sadly our meal was horribly mismanaged due to the restaurant hosting a wedding and not adequately planning. We were out to an odd table in the flow of traffic and waited an unreasonably long time between courses. The fish dishes were well done, but the steak and salads were all forgettable. Out server was fantastic, and tried to make up for the horrible seating and mismanagement of the kitchen, but it was not enough for me to recommend visitors to steer clear. Nearly $1k later to take desert to go with a feeling of being ripped off.
Hands down best restaurant we ate at on our trip. The food, view and service are world class (and I don't use that term lightly). We are extensive travelers, and the I would put our experience there easily in our top ten. Better than some Michelin rated restaurants.
We had always loved Merrimans in the past. Great service, great food and overall beauty. The beauty is still there, but the service was disappointing. Our server disappeared after our main course was delivered. We were able to work through the past boy. The salad and appetizer were great. The main course was fish and was not as moist as should have been. The pre-fixed menu was expensive, and net worth money. We met someone at the airport on our way home and they had the same experience.
Certainly one of the top three dining experiences we’ve ever had. The food, setting and service were all incredible! Ask for Michael K. a true professional obsessed with making sure you have an incredible dinner! The passion fruit drink was amazing!
