The malasada’s are tasty especially with the macadamia sauce! Fried rice is a must.Service is a bit lacking. And the Hyatt makes you pay for parking for which you have to pay at the front desk not at the front parking valet.
This was truly a memorable experience for my family. Jeff was the best server we have ever had. The sushi was beyond amazing and the atmosphere and view speaks for itself. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants an incredible experience especially at sunset.
The atmosphere of Japengo is great and quite relaxing. The sushi is very good though the bowls are just average at best (if we go back, we will order sushi and poke only). The service was not very good, quite slow and not overly helpful. Also, the restaurant does not accept cash as a payment, which is odd because the other main restaurant in the resort does.
AMAZING SUSHIThe sashimi was so fresh and vibrant! Uni was so creamy and sweet - didn't have any ocean flavor to it.Fujin, laihana sunset roll, and ka' anapali roll were all excellent. My favorite was Fujin roll - it was a good balance of sweet, savory, salty, and rice. This place is inside Hyatt but you don't need to live there in order to go.Staff squeezed us in. Pretty friendly but definitely had a lot of customers that they were serving. There are penguins outside the restaurant (part of Hyatt).Food came out in a timely mannerI recommend getting reservations in advance, but they are not required.
The best attribute of this restaurant is the setting IF you get a table outside on the bluff. The rest goes downhill. The sushi is average and rolls we ordered paired fish with odd ingredients leading to weird tastes . We tried specialty dishes including pork, noodle, tenderloin, and curry seafood option they highlight on menu. While the last was my favorite, that wasn’t saying much as the remainder were uninspired and meh. When dropping about $500 for a party of 4, one should receive far better than Panda Express. Service was friendly and satisfactory. To add insult to injury, we were told we could valet car at no charge by concierge as we were not staying at Hyatt, but when we left they demanded $14 for parking. All in all, one should avoid this place if good food and a memorable evening is your objective.
When I first book the restaurant I did not even realize it was on the property of our resort. I booked it based off of reviews. And I am glad I did. The food was phenomenal, service great, and it is in a great location over looking the ocean towards sunset. Loved everything we had. Make sure to reserve in advance!
We stayed at the Hyatt and chose to have our last family night dinner here. I recommend you make reservations. It was pricey to eat here as a family of 4; but we knew that going in. Final bill was $400. Bring cash for the tip ?. Every appetizer and main dish we had was amazing. We ordered mix of sushi & hot dishes of shrimp, noodles with steak & mushrooms. I wish i could remember the name of all the dishes, but we were not disappointed with anything we ordered. Best maguro. My daughter said "the freshest sushi and best sushi I've ever had in my life".
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency, where Japengo is located, and we had reservations for dinner upon our arrival in Maui. We all had a hard deciding what to order because there were so many delicious options. We were also very pleased with the food and the atmosphere. Get reservations in advance!
We came here at the begining of our trip and at the end. Most everything is outside but they have some of the best views. Definitely make reservations well in advance. At some points of the week they only take reservations but the bar is open seating. The food is delicious also with a full sushi bar. Definitely try some of the drinks.
Beautiful restaurant with incredible sunset views. Great service and delicious food.
