I’ve had good, bad and amazing shave ice. This was on the amazing side. Closest I can compare it to on the mainland is Bahama Bucks when it comes to taste and texture. I got the Hawaiian Heaven with mango ice cream on the bottom and cream on the top. Their syrups are made with Hawaiian cane sugar.They have vegan ice cream options made with coconut milk that are also great.
Best shaved ice we had on Maui!! Over 10 days we tried several spots and followed others recommendations. On our way to the airport we wanted to stop one more time and this gem was the closest to us with the higher rating.I was not expecting it to be as amazing based on the prior ratings. I don't know where people went to give anything less than 5 stars!Huge servings, tons of flavor, the ice was super fluffy and the finest grind yet, and they smashed the ice cream on the bottom like no other place. Genius!!! The staff was so nice and price was the same as other places. Heck, you get more, tastes better, and only had to wait maybe 5 min.I wish we could go back tomorrow. I will be dreaming of surfing monkey on my flight home!
We ended up visiting Surfing Monkey twice on our visit. We enjoyed being able to get both ice cream and shaved ice so the whole family had options. The portions were gigantic unlike a couple other places we visited, which we really appreciated. The shaved ice was very close to the top of our list of all the places we tried. Check it out!
My first shave ice experience and I wasn't disappointed. If you're wondering if you need ice cream on the bottom, the answer is YES.The small size was huge (much larger than the other shave ice shop I went to).
Everyone is always lined up at Ululani's when Surfing Monkey has no line and by far without a doubt is the best shaved ice on Maui. Highly recommend you check this place out!
You’ve probably heard of all the other big name shave ice places on Maui, but this is the best one. Chunky, creamy macadamia nut ice cream, fluffy, generous ice, and the most fruit-like-tasting syrups we’ve had. Go here (my fav is the Tropical Heaven flavor set)
We have been on Maui for 2 weeks and have gone 3 times to Surf Monkey. Service has been friendly every time, and portions are great! We tried two others shaved ice stands and Surf Monkey is the best by far?
We loved this so much that we went back the next day for more! Shaved ice and the ice cream are all delicious.
We had the Mac nut ice cream on the bottom topped with shave ice flavors coconut, pineapple and banana. Great combination and they pack their shave ice well. Others don’t and it’s just not as good. Too slushy when they don’t pack it.
This is our favorite shave ice in Kihei. The portions are more generous than other local businesses for the same prices (their small is similar to the other guys’ large). The flavors are authentic and taste great. Nothing unusual but the standards are done well. The service is great too with a lady willing to give tourists some local advice and a smile. Great shop, and conveniently located to other restaurants for dessert, or to walk across to the park for sunset.
