Handy espresso stop on Kihei Road. Busy...but not a long wait. It's right next to Kihei Cafe so it's a good place to fwt your coffee while you wait!

We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Island Lava Java. The food was delicious. Most of all, the entire staff were helpful and very friendly. Island hospitality at its best! Karen?
We had been to Island Lava Java 4 years ago and were pleased with it then so we thought why not head in again. So pleased I even gave the a good tripadvisor review...not this time. Sadly, this was not the same type of visit at all. We had the the soup of the day which was tomato. It was bland and lukewarm. I had the Lava Java fish tacos. The fish was very dry and had zero taste. I almost thought it was chicken! My lemonade was very sour as well. Sadly "due to a portable order tablet error" my husbands order for his lunch was not put into the kitchen. So 10 minutes after I received my tacos and after asking twice about the sandwich he was finally brought his meal. The turkey sandwich was not very tasty and he ordered fries and received sweet potato fries. We mentioned we were not happy with this service and we were told "thank you for your patience.." Yeah not what we wanted to hear at all and we were still charged for all food that was finally brought to us. Sadly, I would not visit this place again.

We went twice in 3 days. Probably the best eggs Benedict of my life and I a career chef in my 60’s. Hollandaise was virtually perfect. We stopped again in the evening for a calamari and poke. Cocktails were solid. Even the food we saw that night going to tables around us looked fantastic. It would be my #1 pick for breakfast in the area
A contactless ordering system built by dysfunctional toddlers. Inattentive staff that never check to see if the order/food was alright. Fixing a wrong order by giving you a plate of bacon to put on your now lukewarm burger. I could go on but why bother? Skip this place. If your waiter is Daniel, run, do walk to the exit. Worst service i’ve had in years.

Ok. I'm not that hard to please. Look at my other reviews and you'll see that I'm a very reasonable customer. This was one of the single worst dining experiences I've ever experienced. First of all their "contactless ordering system" is a disaster. If my devs ever coded something this bad I would fire them. I am not a technophobe, luddite, or hater of technology. I'm very technically adept. This was just poorly implemented. Scan a QR code. Get your table number. Enter your name. Good so far. Accidentally close the window in your phone browser, well then you have to enter a new name. Want to see what was ordered already. Too bad so sad. Want to confirm what you ordered when you think they brought the wrong thing out? Nope. Can't do that. My order was simple, Cheeseburger with Bacon and fries medium. How do you mess that up? Leave off the bacon. Cooke the burger about 5 minutes past well done. I realized almost immediately the bacon was missing and tried to get my waiter's attention. I tried for 10 minutes. Not once did he look in my direction. No "Is everything all right with your order?" I had to get up walk up to him and when he ignored me standing there I had to literally yell his name. His remedy for the missing bacon on my now lukewarm burger? To bring me a plate of two pieces of lukewarm bacon to add to the burger myself. I did go a bit "Karen" on him and told him I shouldn't have to go track him down but got nothing but "we're sorry for the mixup". So the pluses: - View is great. - Decent selection of American food, burgers, fries, ribs etc. - Location is convenient with free parking (sometimes) available behind it The minuses: - A contactless ordering system that was designed by incompetent toddlers. - At least one server (Daniel) who doesn't understand the absolute basics of how to wait tables. My recommendation. Skip this place. There are other places near by that have to be better.
We tried this restaurant for the first time this morning. Food is good. But there was too much for us. We find that one plate of food would have been more than enough. Great service, fantastic island location.
