Food was good and the prices were fair, particularly for the hotel restaurant. The fish and chips and the burger were both quite good.It didn't open until noon, though, which is unfortunate given that there are not a lot of other breakfast places around; plan to eat in-suite for breakfast if you can (there's a supermarket just up the hill), but it's tough on your first day! It closes at 8 PM, but last call is 7:30 PM, and they mean 7:30 -- we got in at 7:32 one night and were turned away. (Again, unfortunate because that means hopping in the car and driving someplace else, or eating at one of the VERY small number of options open after 8 PM within walking distance!)More convenient hours would go a long way toward raising this rating. The room is hundreds of dollars a night, give an on-site option for eating!
I was there waited to give one order… a sandwich. There was a order from someone else and he said after that the kitchen is closed. Well I said and maybe one sandwich for me please. Respond…. The kitchen is closed…. Dude it’s just a sandwich. I didn’t get one.

It's not often that you find good food and drinks at a hotel/resort pool bar -- and yet we found both. Great atmosphere, awesome fish sandwich (Cajun style), salad and burger. The spicy ? margarita was excellent too!
Great Bacon & Blue burger, fish & chips good, too. Drinks are excellent, had a mai tai & pina colada. Great, friendly service.
One of the must-do's on Hawaii is to watch the setting sun while on a patio or terrace facing the ocean. Sunset Terrace happens to be in our resort complex so we walked down just before sunset to have a dinner while watching the setting sun. It seems all the tourists like to do the same thing but we got a table overlooking the pool and facing west. We received prompt service even though our waiter was basically managing the entire restaurant on his own for most of the evening. In a short period of time, our dinners arrived. The coconut shrimp was very good. Crispy coating outside and moist, tender shrimp inside. The dipping sauce was okay. For the main course, I had the fish & chips. The order came with 3 nice sized pieces of ono that was again moist and tender inside and crisp and crunchy outside. Really good. Not so good was the tartar sauce which was just okay as it didn't add anything to the fish. A nice glass of local beer made everything just that much better. Others in our party had the salad with the fish add-on and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The most pleasant surprise was the affordability factor as we have been trying out various dining establishments both in Kauai and here on Hawaii (big island) and Sunset Terrace has food that is nearly as good as other places that we've tried for a lot less greenbacks (dollars). The food itself would earn this eatery a strong 4+ rating but value for money puts it up there at a 5! Check out the Sunset Terrace for your own wonderful sunset evening or heck, any other time!
The owner is a rude sob. Bad food, far too expensive and the owner talks down to you…..nah. I’d rather chew my own arm off and make my own drinks! Avoid at all costs! Worth getting in the car to go somewhere else. Shame on you Shell Kona Coast poor reflection on you for this place.
Good food, under staffed, management refused to honor discounts that club wyndham had with them. He was very rude.
Take the time to drive elsewhere! Bad stain on a good resort. Bad bad food far too expensive with horrible owners, rude and condescending.
Bad experience, poor customer care. Ordered dinner. Waited over half hour, watched other couples come in after us and get their meals. Asked about it and was treated with disdain. Told that everyone arrived at same time. Couple next to us. 20 minutes after us were served same item we ordered. Gee, maybe and error? But acted like we were wrong. Gave us drinks (beer and iced tea) like that forgives behavior. They have a captive audience so i guess customer service isn't a requirement! Complained to the Wyndham desk also.
