Would have given 5 stars food, but took an awkwardly long time. 5 people ordered after us and got food before us. Could have been any number of reasons, but not mad about it. The food I had (katsu dip) was exceptional and made the wait worth it. It was a little sweet, the crispy crust was light and not greasy. 100% would order that again and 100% would recommend this place. Prices were acceptable, portions were nice. I got the mini and was enough for lunch.
Good Hawaiian food that is popular with locals. Good ac, but not much seating, but outdoor seating is comfortable. Tried for breakfast and lunch. Moco Loco and Calamari was especially good. My daughter loved the banana pancakes with coconut syrup.
Based on the great reviews, I chose this place as our first dinner in Hawaii after landing and grabbing our rental car. We were not disappointed! The food and the service was excellent. My husband had TERIYAKI BEEF and seem to thoroughly enjoy it. My son was less excited about the chicken strips and fries, but I thought his fries were quite tasty. The best part for me was the FISH BURGER tempura style and it was SO GOOD. The portions were generous without being too much; the tables were well-spaced and clean; the shopping center was easy to access and exit. Highly recommend a stop here!
whenever i am calorie deprived.....pine tree is great and i always go for loco moco and itsa 2000 calories of sustenance
On your way to/from KOA? First chance/Last chance to grab the classics! Had their Somen Chinese Chicken Salad and it was terrific .. .. Lots of locals & tourists plus loads of to-go orders had this place busy all afternoon!
This local place is amazing. The fish burgers are good and the breakfast Britto is good.It is highly recommend especially after or while going to the pine trees beach.
We happened upon Pine Tree on our way back to our hotel. We actually stopped in the plaza to try the coffee place next door and found that it was closed. Not knowing what to eat we stumbled into Pine Tree. The menu was a bit overwhelming not having looked at reviews prior but we ended up getting a few different thing. We were pretty happy with everything we tried. Loco moco: after having bland loco moco in Hilo, we were pleasantly surprised that the patty was seasoned well! It over all was very good. This made up for the not great loco moco from a couple days before. The fish sandwich: I picked grilled mahi mahi after asking what they suggested. It was simple but I enjoyed it very much. Note this was a sandwich only and didn't come with anything along with it. If you want to order something else as a side, be sure to look into it so you can add it onto your order. Friend Poke bowl: I've had poke many times before but have never seen a fried poke bowl. I was very surprised. It was simple but very tasty with rice, furikake, an aioli sauce, a pickled cucumber I believe and the fish. I am so glad we decided to order this. The Beef Stew: This very much reminded us of my mom's beef stew and maybe that's why we enjoyed it so much. It was also a large portion so it was easy to share. The Pulehu ribs: This was just ok. After trying so many other things, this was just plain. I didn't have any complaints but it just wasn't our favorite item. I can't recall what came with Mac salad but that also wasn't my favorite. We would definitely come here again if we were to visit the island. The place gets very busy so be aware that you might have to wait a while to get your food.
The short story: this is a super efficient kitchen churning out a diverse selection of reasonable good foods at reasonably good prices to the masses. The longer version: The is definitely something to be said for a kitchen that can meet great demand and still produce good food. This speaks to a work force with a strong work ethic as well as fantastic management skill. I'm not trying to knock that here, so please read it in that tone.If you have 45 minutes for your 10 person group to grab a bite before you need to book it to your Zipline your in Kohala that starts in two hours... This is the place for you.If you are wanting to come away with a meaningful culinary experience added to your vacation... Maybe not so much. When we arrived there were perhaps 10 guests in front of us. Our order was taken, and food prepared in about 15 minutes. By the time our food arrived probably another 30 people had funneled thru the line. This is a very popular spot! I saw no one complaining about messed up orders, the prep team is clearly on point, but this comes with a caveat. There is simply no time to pay attention to the food, the orders are just cranked thru like it's on a conveyer belt.Everything was good. Just that. I had the fish breakfast with ahi, hard eggs, hash browns and a side of toast. The ahi was well done (which honestly I don't really think ahi should ever be served well done, but there weren't really any options), the eggs were perfect, the hash browns were those thick hard triangular kind that come frozen and then deep fried, and the toast was toast. Good breakfast, nothing to write home about, conveyer belt did it's job. My wife's was similar with French toast and eggs. There are tons at great reviews for this place and I can't help wondering if when things are slower maybe a little more personality comes thru, but as busy as they were I don't even see how that's possible.Next time I need fast food I'd come here again before I would hit up a drive thru, but otherwise I feel like there are better places nearby to invest my appetite.
Pancakes were big & delicious. Not much on atmosphere. Good service. You will have a little wait because it’s usually busy. One thing I was very disappointed in was that they didn’t have any coconut ? syrup for pancakes.
This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Food took some fair time being prepared, which granted, could be a good thing in that it's not sitting under a warming lamp waiting to be ordered. The teriaki chicken, was a very fair portion and tasty, too much for my wife to eat. The Captain's Platter, was all batter covered pieces that wasn't really as enjoyable as I'd expected. The rice was dry. We ate outside which was really just on the large cement pad in the shopping center front. Don't know if we'll be back.
