On this trip to Kona we actually stopped here twice since we really liked it. Our first visit, Our server Jane was new on the job, but she really did great. I started with a Lychee Martini and I really enjoyed while my wife enjoyed her Plantation Tea. We shared the Calamari appetizer and she had the Ahi Stir-fry while I had the Fresh Catch Ahi. Both we great. On our second visit my wife again enjoyed her Plantation Tea while I started with a glass of Malbec. She ordered a Caesar Salad along with the daily Fresh Catch while I enjoyed the Garden Salad and New York Strip that was cooked just right.
On our return to Kona, decided to have a late lunch at Foster's. Up the white staircase to wonderful table over looking the bay. Friendly staff explained options. Salads were popular choice for the ladies and I had a delicious burger. Glad they are still here and serving up good , locally sourced food.
Food was delicious and we cleaned out plates. I had the fish tacos. My husband had fish n chips. His first impression was small fish portion but he was satisfied! The kids had burgers. We needed a hearty meal and this hit the spot. We even had room for cheesecake and it was yummilicious!!
Fosters is our favorite restaurant! We eat here anytime we visit my in-laws in Kona. Their food is excellent (try the seafood puff pastry appetizer), service is great, and the view is amazing. We have yet to try anything we haven’t liked here.
The food and service was exceptional. The view was perfect. We were there for lunch and it was the perfect place to kick off our tropical vacation.
We tried to get in this restaurant 4 times, each time the wait was over an hour. On our last night we joined the waitlist and we’re told it was an hour and a half. We walked the streets of Kallua Kona for an hour before it started to rain. We returned to the restaurant to see if we could wait out of the rain, there were many empty tables by this time (8:30 pm) We we’re told that they could not seat us. When I asked why, they said that they don’t do that. When I asked if they expected for us to walk around in the rain for 45 minutes (the wait was now 15 minutes longer) they said, with a smile, that we should. Went to Huggo’s instead (for the 5th time) service and food was outstanding as on the previous 4 occasions.
My fish was outstanding, and everyone in the family enjoyed their entrees- steak past and chicken. A bit of a wait, but the staff were professional and skilled. A standout on the Kona restaurant strip.
Yes, you may wait longer than you think, but their staffing is limited, as sometimes the menu items are. We ate there 4 times in 7 days, twice we had to wait, the food and service was good to excellent.. They have a variety of items on the menu, but not every thing is available, everything is made to order so if you can't relax with a beverage and wait for freshly prepared food, go elsewhere. The appetizers are varied and filling and I appreciated the option of ordering a small plate at a smaller price. This place is unique and offers island brews and drinks. The salads are fresh, the fish is good, and the entrees are not overpriced. All the servers we had were great, but it's obvious as not to overwhelm the kitchen they don't fill every table.
When I say please go somewhere else, I am not merely suggesting, I am pleading. We waited 45 minutes for a table for two (the restaurant is not actively taking reservations right now) and then another 15 minutes before our server came to the table. All told, we saw our server three times during our stay. Incredibly poor service. The food was very lackluster. The “sautéed“ vegetables were almost raw. The stuffed chicken was bland and flavorless. Perhaps the only bright spot were the french fries on my wife’s plate. If this restaurant were on Maui, it would be closed. Do better guys.
One of the crew members on our catamaran outing said this is his favorite restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! Each staff member we encountered was very friendly, from the hostess to the bartender and to our lovely waitress, Bella. We had a beautiful ocean view table and delicious food from start to finish. We will be back!
