This is regarding our table 05, 7 guests, Desiree was our waitress, spent $242.44, check 284226, on 6/15/22. My husband and I have been patrons of Amigo's Kahului for over 10 years, and frequent the Kihei location at times when we are over there. We would eat at the Kahului location every Friday for years with our paddle team after practice, as Amigo's is our favorite place for margaritas and Mexican food on island. Best carnitas on island. Always had great service, food, and drinks- usually, we are the last people to leave the resto as we enjoyed our drinks, food, and good company. My brother's family has been visiting the island and staying with us the past 10 days, and he loves Mexican food. We took his family, some of my paddle team, and my husband to Amigo's Wednesday night for dinner after paddle practice. There were 7 of us (6 adults, 1 child), and we arrived at around 8:15, and were greeted and waited for our table for about 10-15 minutes with no worries. So we sat down around 8:30. The adults ordered margaritas, micheladas, and Coronas. We ordered all our food no worries and were having a great time. We also ordered 3 of the homemade dark red hot sauces to come out with our food, as we love that sauce and we know it doesn't come out unless we order it, as the hot sauce bar is no longer there. The food came out to 5 of us and the waitress handed it out in front of each of us and we began eating. My brother was about 4 bites into his burrito and commented his shrimp was not diablo at all, and had no spice to it, and we all realized he had been given our friend's mild shrimp burrito. (My brother ordered a diablo shrimp chimichanga special.) We let the waitress know she put the wrong food in front of him and we now needed my brother's diablo shrimp and a new mild shrimp burrito for our friend, since my brother already had eaten bites from the other one. She came back about 10 minutes later with our friend and my brother's food. My brother began eating his and said his was mild and not the diablo he ordered, but he ate it anyways but was very disappointed. Our 3 hot sauces never came out, even after I asked about two more times if we could please have them. She brought the green sauce and I reminded her I ordered the dark red ones. She brought one out towards the end of our meal. We called the waitress over and ordered another Corona, and 3 more margaritas, as we were not even half way through our meals yet. The waitress told us that they stopped serving drinks about 25 minutes ago. We were like, what? It's 9:25 and we are eating our meal and came to drink the delicious margs we love. We were totally confused, as we have never been told we were not being served past 9pm, and we have definitely ordered drinks past 9pm every time we've come to eat at night. She just stared at us and said nothing and walked away. Then our check came and the auto gratuity was slapped on our bill, despite the awful service, mix up of foods, incorrect food given to my brother, no hot sauces, and cutting the drinks off. WHAT???!!! Talk about FUMING MAD. We were all pretty shocked that first of all the drinks stop at 9pm? When did this happen? And shocked she didn't give us a last call warning, as we all were drinking alcohol. It was also disappointing our service was absolutely lousy and there were no apologies for any of the mistakes made or answers about the drink situation. Totally confusing and disappointing, and my brother and sister in law visiting said they never wanted to come back here again. Unless management reaches out to us for answers to make this right, we will NOT BE going back to Amigo's in any location on Maui EVER again, and we will spread the word also to friends and family. There will be many customers lost. Highly disappointing and a total bummer, as this was one of the restaurants we always loved, even during the pandemic and price hikes and waiting in line to eat. May seem manini to some, but being loyal customers for over a decade and having a horrible expe
Customer service is excellent but the food is just ok. I'm used to burritos that are smothered with green chili but they couldn't seem to understand that here. It came out plain so I asked for green chili and they said they call that a wet burrito and will bring some out to me to pour on top. What arrived was green salsa! Not the same. And the ground beef taco meet was too greasy. Also, the bean tostadas have rice on them. That's weird.
I have given this place several tries and everytime I do it is the same story. Overpriced mediocre food small portions and to top it all off borderline rude service. I have tried several different options on the menu from the lengua, to the chicken and beef. The flavors are ok but nothing that grabs you or that really stands out. Some items are almost bland. The service both in house and for takeout are ok to horrible. I have tried to give this place several tries because people keep telling me that they have gotten better. Sad to say no they haven't. There are several other spots that do Mexican food much better. With better service and better quality and portions and they are all in same price range. Hopefully these guys do something to improve. Until then I would not recommend. Oh the one thing that irritated me the most is that they put their host stand outside but their is not always someone outside. I have stood there 5 to almost 10 min before being acknowledged. As a business they should really work on this especially if they are that busy.
They're Mexicans alright, but work and the taxing nature of the business--and maybe being away from the Mainland, where the other Mexican restaurants are, had caused this place to decay. And not like corpse per sé, but like a mall from the 1970's. There's no Mexican music to let you at least PRETEND you're in Guadalajara. Nope. Just a stupid sports bar screen over the bar, like if you're at a sports bar. Although (because I'm Chicano and spoke Spanish) the staff were very attentive, the food was lackluster and VERY EXPENSIVE--not at ALL worth the $200.00 dollars we paid to sit in a corner, broken down booth without air conditioning. I give 2 stars for the middle of the Pacific Ocean. But if the place were in SOUTHERN CA--where I'm from--it wouldn't even qualify for rating. ???
As someone visiting from South Texas, I was ready for comfort food by the end of my trip, and this restaurant did not disappoint. Delicious and perfectly crispy chilaquiles, and I appreciated the Negra Modelo on draft. Very convenient to the airport.
Food is good, service is great, BUT...My wife had their top shelf Margarita, a cadillac, with better tequila 1800, overall a 7 out of 10.If you know true Mexican food you will be a little disappointed. All was good but, anglonzed, no heat, no spice/herbs.We travel to Mexico often and live in Southern California, true Mexican food has taste, spices and herbs giving full flavor.Don't expect anyone working to know Spanish or understand your Spanish, busboy was lost when I asked about the Birria, beef or goat in Spanish.
We ordered a nacho plate with shredded beef- portion was huge. Lots of nachos are full of chips and lean on topping- not so here- plenty of topping to go with the mound of chips
We were looking for something to remind us of home in Texas and found Amigo’s. It’s hard to go up against real Tex-Mex but this comes pretty close and won’t destroy your wallet. Between the four of us we had a wet burrito plate, various hard shell tacos, and a burrito bowl. All declared it was good stuff and walked away happy. I think you’ll think the same.
The Lāhainā location is much better and the service is faster and nicer. We appreciate the attempt at Mexican food in Kahului, but we think there may be better in the area. The margarita was huge but had absolutely no taste. We'll probably keep going because one person in the family enjoys the enchiladas.
Amigo's had really delicious Mexican food with large portions for reasonable prices! The staff were very nice and helpful. I would recommend stopping by for a bite to eat!
