Brah…. Brah…. BRAH…. Have I got a story for you… I have been wanting to come here for awhile, but I don’t really eat out much… todayI had forgotten that I was supposed to pick up beautiful daughter after practice so I hopped in the car to pick her up asap! When I got there she was HANGRY!! J/K…. But she was hungry…. One of her favorite foods is carne asada fries…. I wanted us to try a new place and there was a restaurant I wanted us to try… Tio’s Tamales. They feature New Mexican cuisine and I have been wanting to go, but rarely go out and very picky on my Mexican food being a Tejano… but we gave it a try… I was greeted by the owner Ray Mascarenas… this was a very small eatery with only one small table inside and very warm, but Ray was beyond cool and made me feel like a brother once I entered… I felt that even if I didn’t like the food I would probably come back just because this guy was sooo freakin’ nice! He is from New Mexico and moved here in 2010… he said the people here made him feel like he was home. Almost everything had green chile sauce on it … even their hamburgers?! But the pics looked so dang good… I couldn’t make up my mind. I decided to play it safe with a burrito and carne asada fries. My daughter didn’t want to eat there because there was no air conditioning so we headed to McDonald’s…. Ray handed me the bag with my order and it was HEAVY!! I knew that meant this would be my food for the weekend…We got to McDonald’s and I got us some drinks and the food did not disappoint. It was funny … beautiful daughter thought the fries were spicy and I just thought it was flavorful… I had to get her an ice cream afterwards to cool her down… regardless… it looks like I will be coming back here again…. Mahalo Ray!
I tried the Chili Relleno Plate and it was fantastic. A little different than a traditional chili relleno where these resembled little egg rolls with the chili and cheese fried inside. I love supporting small businesses and had the pleasure of meeting Tio himself today. Will definitely return and try more of his menu!
Friendly gentleman at the counter, food is clearly all homemade & was fresh, hot & delicious. We didn't call ahead but we still got our food quickly. We will definitely be back!
This place is great, Dude knows his chile! The breakfast burritos were excellent, get the extra side of green chile just to pour on top! Makes me think of Tia Sophia's, Dave's Not Here, and Tomasita's.
My new favorite!! OUTSTANDING FOOD!!!! I would eat here every day if could. Strongly recommend the #4 breakfast burrito and the carne asada fries.
So so GOOD! Was really excited to see an authentic New Mexico restaurant...and it holds true on taste and value! Originally from New Mexico I can confidently say it's worth a stop in to say hi and get a really great, flavorful meal with great service! Will definitely be back--thanks for bringing a slice of home to the island!!
Honestly, for being in the middle of the Pacific this is the best place to go for tamales! I get super homesick and this food is the closest I’ve found to Tex-Mex. I am 100% going to be a regular!
FANTASTIC breakfast burritos. The carne asada burrito was delicious and pleasantly spicy. Will definitely get again
Good Mexican food. You can call in ahead to pick up so that you don't have to wait while they make your food.
Nastiest bland tastes old and disgusting I feel mcdonalds has better food than this dirty hole in the wall got 2 breakfast burritos and a quesodilla burrito had no flavor and meat was horrific. Quesodilla was dry and disgusting waste of money sad thing is I had came here before and had a similar experience and thought I would give them another try. Worst choice ever not only did I waste money once but I did twice. Do not go here so many better choices taco bell would treat me better.
