We come back here on every visit to Honolulu. The omakase is stellar and the staff very nice. My wife canât eat as much as I can and they were very gracious in letting her end at the point of her fullness while I soldiered on. In addition, she doesnât eat oysters so we advised them in advance and during that course, they substituted an amazing warm butterfish sushi for her. For those who have had a poor experience on both these points, I would bet itâs on you, not this great staff. A little kindness and respect goes a long way. Canât wait until we get to come back!
Cannot say enough good things about Sushi Sasabune. I have been to Japan four times, and this is the most authentic experience I have had outside the country. I would go as far as to say it rivals the sushi I had in Japan, just exquisite. I cannot eat shellfish, and the chef accomodated me really well and did not feel like I missed out on anything. Had a party of 5, and everyone was blown away. 10/10 recommend it is by far the best sushi I have had in the United States.
Excellent food, service and quality. The best in the area.
Amount and quality of food cannot be beat!
The chefs and the servers are really nice. Food wise, there are some amazing ones while the seasoning on the fish can be a little redundant.
Hands down, the best sushi in Hawaii. Chef Seji Kumagawa is a true master.
Some of the best fish I've had from all over the world.
Wrote oyster allergy, served us oysters. Told the chef we didnât eat salmon and the chef looked offended. When asked if we would like anything else, we asked for fish they ended up not having and the chef swung his hand without looking up around his ear to signal no. Didnât acknowledge us like he was embarrassed for not having the fish. Not a perfectionist. Needs lessons from sushi sho or go to japan and do an apprenticeship for 30+ years at sukiyabashi jiro. Very disappointed.
My boyfriend and I went to Sasabune to celebrate his birthday. Our reservation was on a Friday evening. We chose bar seating and were served omakase. The host directed us to our seats at the bar. Our server, Tate, came by and helped us choose a bottle of sake to drink with our meal. The sushi chefs were very attentive and served beautifully plated varieties of fish and various seafood. I am not normally someone who craves fish, as I sometimes have issues with texture. But the omakase course at Sasabune was without a doubt one of my favorite meals at any restaurant in recent memory. The seafood tasted fresh and the sauces added to them brought incredible balance to each piece. The sake paired very well with each variety and preparation of our meal. My boyfriend was very impressed and happy with his birthday dinner. The meal closed with hot miso soup and ice cream. Everything about Sasabune was understated but worth every penny. The service was professional, quiet and efficient. The ambience and aesthetic of the restaurant lends itself to really showcase the food. The chefs took great care in each dish they presented to us. The flavors were unexpected but amazing. Some morsels melted in my mouth. Standout dishes were the toro and the Kona lobster. We will definitely be back.
Great Dining Experience- Seiji and the crew always do an outstanding job with their selection, taste/flavor, quality, and presentation. shout out to the service crew Tate and Fano (sp?) for their attentive service.
