Not bad for a hole in the wall. Pretty tasty stuff.
Besides great customary Chinese dishes, they also have a few exotic dishes (especially if you like pork kidney, liver, tripe, etc.). Definitely enjoyable local Chinese establishment.
Heart of Chinatown food. Genuine and from the heart.
worth the wait. bring back memories when I eat there.
Looking for dim sum after 2PM is a challenge. Found Sun Flower. Green beans with pork and Crispy eggplant were excellent. Dim sum good.
Well...really wanted to do something different tonight for dinner and get away from the routine. I was near Chinatown so thought that we should try one of a few Chinese restaurants in the area. I haven't been to Chinatown for dinner in ages and it seemed like a good idea. We walked in and there was one other table with a young father and son having dinner. I overheard him say that the chicken wings was the same as how he remembered going there as a child himself. We were seated but not given a menu so I just walked up to the counter and grabbed it myself.
Well...really wanted to do something different tonight for dinner and get away from the routine. I was near Chinatown so thought that we should try one of a few Chinese restaurants in the area. I overheard him say that the chicken wings was the same as how he remembered going there as a child himself. We were seated and bit not given a menu so I just walked up to the counter and grabbed it myself. The selection of food is standard with any other Chinese in the area but the prices are just a bit less at this place. We placed our order for four dishes and waited as another table settled in behind us and a large family gathered on the large round table. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I noticed that food was coming out to other tables but not our order. After more waiting, one of our dishes came out followed by the rice dish. We waited again for a substantial period and noticed more dishes coming out to other tables. There was even one gentleman who came in, placed his order and received it before we got another dish. I finally asked our server who apologized but made some excuse that we took longer to order than the other table. She soon came out with the 3rd dish. After another few minutes, she came out and told us that the final dish was not available as the chef did not know how to prepare it! REALLY???? I was already fuming by then so we said cancel the order. To our surprise, the server came out and told us that the dish was ready. WAIT A SEC! She just told us that they could NOT make the dish and now she said it was ready? What kind of sick game was she playing? We told her NO and we did not want the dish. This was further followed by the owner who came out with the dish as asked us if we still wanted it. Note that now all the other tables have been served their food. Note that all the other tables arrived after us. The first table with the father and son had a heated discussion with the owner as he apparently made z complaint about the chicken and they were supposed to have made a new order for him. I could hear him saying...'this is the same chicken I returned to you and all you did was serve it back to me?' He demanded that they refund his money or he would never return. The owner at least apologized to us but it was a very weak concession. Sorry but this new adventure was too much of a bad adventure and I guess will need to stick to our regular places.
Local friends recommended this small Chinese cafe in Chinatown that serves standard dishes and dim sum. Pluses:Dim sum - Above average overall for dim sum, way above average for Honolulu. Did not have a bad dish, but better ones were fried turnip cake, shrimp & chive dumpling, bean curd roll, look fun and egg tart. Freshly made look fun and freshly fried turnip cake. Affordable - prices are probably 25% less than fancier or bigger places that aren’t better. No wait - Sunday at 11:30 am. Got busier but still a few tables open. No tourists; surrounded by locals who know what they are there for - no one gawking or making stupid remarks about dim sum dishes; or commenting how the place doesn’t match the reviews they read.Minuses:Did not have a choice of tea which seems to be a custom that is lost in Hawai’i. Decor - worn surroundings which is typical of a lot of small places in Chinatown. Misc:Public parking lots & garages within a block. For now, Sunflower remains an easy option for dim sum for me and those who don’t mind a no frills Chinese restaurant.
The food portion Is too small. Not recommended
Awesome chef and friendly people
