Great to have after lunch at Rainbow Drive Inn next door. The sizes are quite big so the syrup did not penetrate to the center so it can get a bit icy and dry. They added more syrup for me and it was much better.
Stopped by here the other day to grab a shaved ice and was lucky to get one since they ran out of ice on the next order. So I’d recommend coming here early.Their kid size comes in a bowl and is pretty big. You can choose up to three flavors and add on different things like ice cream, mochi, condensed milk, etc.. Out of the different shave iced places I’ve tried their syrups taste the best.
Best Shave Ice we had on Oahu! The portions are beyond generous and super affordable. We stopped here the first time after dinner, each had a kids size and could barely finish. Made sure not to make that mistake when we came back a few nights later. Lol!!
Best shave ice I've ever had! Consistency of ice cream. Absolutely delicious! Also had a delicious lunch of garlic shrimp, garlic poke and ribs in the same building. The customer service was great! Super friendly. We will be back!
If you are looking for a very large portion of shave ice, this is your spot! We got the strawberry cream, coconut, and the milk tea royale. The flavors were mild compared to the other ones that I have had. The milk tea wasn’t the best, didn’t taste like milk tea at all. The other thing I noticed was that it wasn’t as soft as I would like it, it was a little more on the icy side. Since the seating inside was blocked off, there were no where to sit. They should have some seating area outside.
The sizes are very generous and there are a large variety of flavors and toppings to choose from. The store itself has a very good sense of humor. I attempted to order a large shaved ice and there is a sign showing how large it is that says "are you sure?" Because it is almost humorously large. So I settled on a small which was pleasantly sized for almost 2 people. I ordered the rootbeer with a condensed milk add on and it was very delicious. I highly recommend this shop!
CASH ONLY.There is a small parking lot shared with 2 other tenants next to Rainbow Drive Inn.There are only about 6 stalls in the parking lot so great if you can walk or bike here. There is sometimes street parking available nearby .I've been going to the original shimazu shave since I was a kid. Always consistent with the flavors and the quality of ice.I often order the kid size cause it's more manageable to eat then the regular size.The regular size is great if you have an appetite or if you have someone to share with. I love having my own shave ice order so I can choose any flavors I want to have that day.The impressive mound of shaved ice is Instagram / photo worthy!My go to flavors are li hing apple, pickled mango and lilikoi/passion fruit. I love the sour-sweet flavors. Their cream flavors are all really tasty too!
There is an “actual-size” sizing chart upon entry to Shimazus that achieves two things: aids customers in decision making, and alerts the brain that this a serious place. “Do not mess around here,” you will think to yourself. So, when I ordered a large shave ice, the lady behind the counter double checked that I actually knew how big it was, per the sizing chart, to which I confirmed that I did (I lied). Let it be known, then, that common wisdom stops at Shimazu’s shave ice, for inflation does not exist here and lying is a good thing because for only $9 (note, cash only) I was the richest person on the planet for about 30 minutes.
Good shave ice, frequented by locals, and worth the trip. They are extra generous with the syrups.On the downside, they are cash only, and located in a dirty part of town with a lot of homelessness.
