not healthy. at all. tried moco loco, which is rice with a hamburger, gravy, and a fried egg on top. it was heavy. I didn't like the gravy, it tasted fake. my hubby got chicken and it had a nice ginger sauce on it. we also tried the slushy float, which was shaved ice with strawberry syrup, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I thought the slushy float was nasty (but I think anything with red dye, corn syrup and artificial flavor is nasty so that's just me.) it was also weird to me to mix ice with cream.they said there was salad on the plate, so I got that instead of a smaller bowl. turns out the salad was some nasty mayonnaise covered macaroni. definitely not green and definitely not healthy. I felt really full and disgusting after, I would not go back-- but the ambiance was really fun and retro and I like the drive-in vibe of the place. for that reason I'm glad we went, but the food was not nutritious or satisfying.
Rainbow Drive-In was an absolutely wonderful food choice. I went there after a week and the Honolulu-Waikiki area and it was the best meal I had and also one of the most affordable meals. A definite must go on any trip. I was especially satisfied with the loco Moco plate, which hit the spot and I still think and talk about 2 months later.
I really like their menu options! And decent prices, but certain dishes may seem a little under-seasoned. Not the best outdoor seating, but it's still a solid place! Try the ice cream slush it's yummy!
There can be a line, but you can also order ahead of time via website/phone. There's lots of options for food and it's pretty tasty! The Chili Pepper Water is good. They say it can be a condiment, but you can also drink it (not as a beverage). It would be great in a bloody Mary, or mixed in to a different beverage.
We just had a great lunch at a very reasonable price. I had the hamburger plate and my wife had the mixed plate. Both were really good!
Most excellent food. Authentic Hawaiian food. You know it’s a great place to eat when the locals eat there.
I wasn’t really expecting much, I just knew it was a popular spot. But I was so impressed! We stopped here for lunch and it was soo tasty! Full of flavor and a good portion size. I am not a macaroni salad person, but I actually really liked there’s! Great place for some grub!
Like many reviews mentioned, Rainbow Drive-In has made a name for itself right by the heart of Waikiki. My friends and I came around dinner time and there was a decent amount of people. There is a parking lot, but there isn't a lot of space, so you may need to double park when the place is packed. The line for ordering is kind of messy, but it didn't take long to get to the front. There is a QR code you can scan to see the menu. After ordering, we wanted to find a table to eat, but unfortunately, it was raining and there were a ton of people, so we were out of luck. Also, the tables didn't seem that clean either, so I was ok with taking our dinner back to our hotel. Only had to wait less than 10 minutes for our food, so that's a plus. Now as for the food, we got the classic loco moco and the mixed plate. I feel like the food overall was just ok. Nothing special. The portions were huge though, so be aware of how much you can actually eat. The meat for both dishes were kind of dry. The macaroni salad was pretty good. The gravy was a little too thick for my preference, but the flavors were there.I feel like Rainbow Drive-In is a decent spot to get some food at a good price. But would I consider here to be a must-eat restaurant? Probably not.
delicious plate lunches, my favorite is the boneless chicken, ONO BRAH!
A must go to in Honolulu. The plain are good but picking the different flavors is great. None are a bad choice. Can’t wait to go back
