Izakaya Torae Torae is a small restaurant on McCully St (near the H1 overpass) with limited parking. It is best to make reservations, leave a message and they will call you back. The food is delicious! We tried a variety of items and found it difficult to say what we loved the best (it was all good and very fresh). We went with a few recommendations from our waiter and started with Spicy Tuna Tartare and Tuna Carpaccio (great suggestions). Then we had White Dragon, Crunchy Tuna and a few other dishes. The prices have increased (menus found online didn’t reflect current prices).***One downfall, some of the dishes were chipped or broken. Didn’t realize this right away, until passing a dish across the table and cut myself.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and hospitality from the staff ?(5/5) Food: Absolutely amazing - we spoke with the chef and learned a lot about his passion and creativity for food, which has been beautifully reflected on his menu. Our group of four really enjoyed our experience, to the point that we spent 3/9 nights in Hawaii here. Highly recommend the karaage, fresh fish, tartare, and snow crab ? the chu-hi drinks were also amazing, we've tried almost every flavor because they were all so good - especially if you're trying to have an extra fun night ? if you're out late, they have a happy hour where a lot of the goodies, food and drinks, are cheaper!(5/5) Atmosphere: The restaurant is quite cozy but still spacious so that you aren't bumping elbows with another table. Decor is great and really added to our experience from dining to drinking. Music choice ?(5/5) Staff: Our experience in Hawaii has been nothing short of amazing from all the friendly and outgoing people we've met, and our experience here was truly elevated from the staff. Very professional but also a team that clearly works closely together to provide you a great dining and drinking experience, can be talkative and understanding of your needs, and overall adds to the community of Hawaiians that are caring and lovely! We came here 3 nights... That should be a pretty good indicator haha ☺️
This place defines what an Izakaya should be: great food, great atmosphere, great drinks. The Ahi Poke was fresh and ono. This is how ahi poke should be done: fresh and simple (Aloha Shoyu, Hawaiian Sea Salt, Ogo, Pure Japanese Toasted Sesame Oil, chili oil, chili flakes, and green onions...Haha..that's what I tasted from the dish. Come here with a few friends and have a great time.
AMAZING food and the atmosphere is super cozy and cool. All around super worthwhile place to go ?
Best to call and make a reservation but the employees do their best to seat you if you are a walk in. Also, best to get one of everything. Everything is amazing.
I enjoyed my time here, didn't get to take advantage of the happy hour prices cause I had to go. I wouldn't mind coming over again and ordering some good food.

Great food, make sure you reserve a spot a day in advance, leave a voicemail. They'll call you back for a reservation although the space is limited to only a dozen or two, the staff is friendly, the decor makes you feel like you are in an authentic Japanese restaurant. Price very good would highly recommend
