First time to Oahu, and ended up finding this restaurant early in our trip. What a pleasant surprise! You can tell by the quality of the sauces and ingredients that the chef/owner Salvatore puts a lot of time and energy into running this restaurant. The servers were all also very friendly and offered lots of advice. We ended up eating here 3 times during our one week trip, with the pesto penne with chicken being one our favorites - definitely recommend eating here for high quality, tasty Italian food.
Il Tappo is definitely the very BEST Italian restaurant in Waikiki, and in my opinion the best Italian restaurant in Honolulu !! Excellent quality of food and service in a very nice chic, contemporary setting with a great atmosphere ! An absolute MUST if you love Italian food and live in or are visiting Honolulu !!
Food was okay but the service was really bad. We arrived and asked for a table for two and she told us that we had to wait for 30 minutes because there were no free tables eventhough there were 5 tables available. After 30 minutes we finally ordered our dinner and she came back to ask me three times what I ordered. When it was time to pay the waitress demanded that we give her a 18% tip because it is usual in the US. For us it was to much for the servive that we received. She got really unfriendly when we told her we don't want to give that much and she would't stop discussing with us. At the end she told us to give us the 5$ we had in cash. We did so but weren't happy at all. We would not go there again!
Excellent friendly service. Quiet atmosphere. Star of the evening was the food. Bruschetta and the prosciutto arugula excellent but the pasta dishes were amazing. The amatriciana was best I’ve had outside of Italy. Not surprisingly considering chef was from Naples
So so so good. Quality and service was great. We only got the large charcuterie board into glasses of wine but my gosh it was worth it. Don’t miss this place!!!

Wonderful place and delicious food! We had two pizzas for our family of four and the cheese was incredible! The atmosphere had a great "upscale/casual" vibe and the folks here are serious about their food.
One of the very few places in Waikiki beach where we got vegetarian food. Ambiance was wonderful and food was amazingly tasty. Pesto pasta was too good. Tiramisu was soft and yummy. Garlic bread was different and cheese on top had authentic Italian feel.We loved the way we were greeted and treated. It has that 4star feel to the restaurant. The waitress was polite and suggested us with good options. Highly recommend this place.
The food here was phenomenal. We really enjoyed the Calabrese pizza, the vegetariana pizza, the pesto with chicken pasta, and the affogato. Definitely some of the best Italian food we’ve had in a long time, although it was a bit pricey. We ordered the spiked passion fruit soda as well and it was pretty good. The ambiance here is also quite nice, and the owner is super friendly. I would highly recommend trying this place if you’re in the area!
Very delicious meal. Loved the piccolo appetizer. The lasagna was delicious. My husband had the lamb shank special.
