Awesome! Service, food, quality

We went to Hoku's for a special occasion and decided to try the Sunday "Teishoku" special for brunch. It seems that this is to replace a more traditional Sunday brunch, with many offerings for the guests. The food was plentiful, and the service was attentive if not a bit hurried (with the first "courses" arriving even before cocktails - I think they are timing their covers). The food quality, for the most part was good. The sashimi and sushi selections were good, but neither the freshest nor the most generous (the nigiri was VERY thin slices of fish). The main issue is one of value for the money. While there was a ton of food served (like you'd get at a buffet), because it's portioned, $90 per person is pretty steep. As noted, the raw fish serving was scant, and you have to wrestle with your crab legs (at $90, you might crack the crab a little for the diners?). Moreover, while it's customary to be charged separately for cocktails, adding $18-$20 per mimosa or a bloody mary is pretty expensive - making a one cocktail brunch meal well over $100 per person. It was a happy occasion to celebrate, and we weren't unhappy that we went, but if you're seeking an experience that matches up with quality relative to the value of the food experience, this is probably not your top choice in town. Bottom line, it's just a super expensive buffet replacement.
If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or just have some amazing food, Hokus is a must! The food is outstanding, the service and ambiance is a solid 10/10.
Hoku's is HANDS DOWN our #1 go to Restaurant where we celebrate all of our special occasions which includes our Anniversary! I would say their attention to detail, customer service and amazing dishes, location and AMAZING waterfront view, ranks Hoku's one of our top favorite restaurants! Keep it up Hoku's, we are definitely your customers for life!
I donât mind paying premium prices for creative cuisine which satisfies the taste buds and looks beautiful - this is the experience we had at Hokuâs. Atmosphere and service were excellent, but you shouldnât go unless you have a good amount of discretionary income to spend on fine dining! I also appreciated being sincerely asked for feedback by the manager. I shared with him that I had been disappointed in one of the 8 courses because the flavor was not quite to my taste. Otherwise a very enjoyable culinary experience!
This is specific to the Sunday Tei(s)hoku Brunch, which is terrific! 3 courses divided as Appetizer, Main/Entree, and Dessert - 1st two are a complete meal itself! A wonderful tasting menu that will also totally fill you up (I'm 6'1", 240 lbs) and leave you totally satisfied. Highlights for the Appetizer 1st course: this is the 1st time I've had their signature ahi poke musubi and I can't believe I've been deprived of this all my life till now! fresh lobster tail too (note: drawn butter comes w/ 2nd course for crab legs, so be sure to ask for drawn butter for the 1st course for your lobster!). Sashimi/sushi melts in your mouth fresh. 2nd course highlights include prime rib that is so tender and flavorful that it really doesn't matter how done it is. fyi we had dungeness crab legs, which I prefer, and it was nice and meaty, perfect w/ drawn butter. but the miso butterfish was by far out of this world - super delicate, super flavorful. I haven't had miso butterfish this good since at Ming Tsai's old Blue Dragon restaurant in MA. 3rd course will have something great for everyone. Full disclosure: I don't care for chocolate. But everyone else thought the chocolate mousse was to die for. I also am not a huge sweets person in general, but I absolutely loved the lilikoi cream puff. Everything else I didn't mention were also very good. Maybe a few I wouldn't necessarily pull from a buffet line but wonderful nonetheless. This set menu alternative to Hoku's prior buffet style is also highly enjoyable and highly worthy as no one needs to get up from their table hahahanoseriouslythatsgreÂat. Obviously during this Pandemic, buffet style isn't the best option standing shoulder to shoulder and handling utensils that *many* others just handled, and Hoku's is one of a few that have created an equally satisfying alternative. Unsweetened iced tea is extra, but refillable, and *liquid* sugar is provided!!
Anniversary
My husband and I booked this reservation to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary. We chose to have an eight course tasting paired with wine. It was quite pricey, yet an excellent choice. It was such an adventure to be pleasantly surprised by each dish. Our hostess and server were the best. It was one of the best celebrations ever.
From the minute we sat down there was a problem with mats and later flies-too bad for the overall experience
