We were the only customers in the restaurant when they opened for dinner. Both the service and food is good. I had the mahi with garlic noodle while hubby had the butterfish/chicken teriyaki. Both were delicious. We'll be back in a future visit.

This place is fast and the service and taste are consistently good. Some of my favorites are the fried tofu curry, spicy ramen, teriyaki chicken, mushroom skewers, miso eggplant, and potstickers. They make a pretty brownie sundae for dessert. There is an ice cream place next door that is open during the day too. They are open on Mondays which is notable in Hilo. We like to make reservations here for family parties, but there are usually tables available for walk-ins. You can definitely eat here during your lunch hour. This place is very clean and quiet with pleasant instrumental music.
Small, quiet and delicious food!
One of our favorite Japanese Cuisine & Grill Restaurant in Hilo. My family loves the shrimp curry, grilled steak, shrimp tempura and ramen. We visit here at least once a month. The waitress is very attentive to our needs and handles a full restaurant on her own. The atmosphere is very relaxing and inviting. A great place to visit with family or someone special. If desired BYOB is allowed.
intimate place for quiet and peaceful dining! Looks to be family owned and operated with cordial service, extensive menu and excellent quality. Bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy a great dinner experience. Has both japanese style entres as well and traditional american items. I thought the rack of lamb was excellent. I hope this does not bring too much fame to this nice place as I feel it is almost a 'private' place to have dinner.
I have read the reviews, and agree with everyone except Hilo food critic! This is a great little restaurant with excellent food and service. After several visits I asked to see the kitchen, very clean and organized! I am going to continue to be a satisfied customer at Sunlight Cafe!!!
