Atmosphere is 5 star. Beef Stew and Minestrone Soup were amazing. Salad and dessert could have been better. Waitstaff could have been more helpful, but was very nice. Will definitely be back
Papajacs funny spelling but serious food! A great selection of items. I had the rotisserie chicken salad sandwich with pecans, cranraisins, etc. it came with a choice of a free side. I took the garden salad with lilikoi dressing. Loved it! Other choices our table ordered were: oriental salad, greek salad, and shrimp scampi. All of it was great and totally, and I mean totally, consumed. Last time I was here my boyfriend had theveal shank, which was slowly cooked in terrific sauce. DELICIOUS!! This little place has anupscale, classy look which is surprisingas it is in a 100 + year old building (with a small front door) on the Bayfront in Hilo town. Linen tablecloths, linen napkins, a nice comfortable,clean feel and it is even air-conditioned with nice music in the background. Not your typically hilo lunchtime venue.And, affordable! ? Oh they even have escargot on the menu. I'm going to try it next time...Maybe!Service..awesome!They are pretty new in town so not that busy yet. So no standing in line. Aloha!
This place is VERY AFFORDABLE!! All entrees around $15, but the quality of a $30 entree. Sandwiches w/ Salad in pic where $12 each & added soup $4. Place has an upscale vibe: cloth table clothes, cloth napkins, pepper grinder, etc. Very nice place on the Oceanfront in downtown Hilo. We live here and our office is 2 blocks away…so given we know and visited most restaurants here, the is one of the more refined restaurants and super affordable.
WOW! This place is GREAT. Such a nice addition to the downtown Hilo list of restaurants and such a wide variety of foods. We both love it and take it to go all the time. That roasted chicken salad is my favorite but so far, everything I've tried I've really loved. HIGHLY recommended!
Very quaint, service is good. Very relaxing with smooth jazz playing, white table clothes very casual Elegance. They do not serve alcohol. So you can bring your own beer and wine. We love thatYou do have to pay a corkage fee.
Love this local lunch shop! They always provide amazing service and you can feel the aloha as soon as you walk in and meet the staff. It's on the casual side, but very sleek and nice place giving it a classy feel while still being fresh and hip. On top of that they have something to eat for whatever mood you may be in. Want something light? They got you. Something fast? One speed! Desserts? Yes! Want something healthy? Covered there as well. Maybe feel like something savory & a little higher end? Try one of their specials. I've tried many things on their menu on multiple occasions and was pleased every time. If you're in the area and like good/quick service, good vibes, and are in need of a meal or treat, Papajac's is highly recommended.
We were looking for a place for lunch and appreciated the classy appearance of the restaurant. We were not disappointed. We both ordered soups, the minestrone and kombucha squash, and split a chicken salad sandwich. The side was homemade potato salad. Everything was delectable. In fact, the food was so good I ordered the cheesecake to go. Other factors added to our dining experience: 1) our server, the owner's granddaughter, did everything she could to make our dining experience enjoyable; 2) the owner came to our table and struck up a conversation, and then to our surprise he comped us two glasses of wine; and 3) the simple classy layout of the restaurant including table cloths and clean cloth hand towels in the bathroom provided the sense of a gourmet restaurant at bargain prices.
Wonderful place with a menu for most. Very clean, and recently renovated. Our host was excellent and accommodating.
