This place was filthy. We stopped in for a quick bite yesterday, but I wish I'd read the reviews from another site first because the very first one mentioned finding a dead cockroach in their water. When the waiter (owner?) brought out our food, he took away the plate in front of my son *that my son had touched numerous times*, put a clean (???) napkin and cutlery on it, and **put it on another table for the next customer to use**. He did not wash it at all or even wipe it down. He did the same with my daughter's plate. Just because a plate looks clean doesn't mean that it is! It was at that point that I refused to eat or drink anything from there, and we paid and left having eaten less than 10% of what we ordered. In this time of Covid, I cannot believe that someone would take a used (though seemingly clean) plate off a table where people were eating and simply place it on another table, unwashed and unsanitized. We were the only ones in the restaurant so it's not like he was busy. Also, my daughter reported that there were dead bugs in the corners of the women's bathroom. Truly disgusting. Don't eat here.
Not normally a fan of Thai cuisine, but this place changed my mind. Authentic, fresh, and hot, what a find on Hilo. This restaurant is not going to win any awards on ambiance or decor, but lets me serious that's not what we are here for.Try the curry's..amazing
My dude took time out of his busy evening and talked us through Thai cuisine. We asked for spicy and got spicy! Turns out the unique recipes for each restaurant are indicative of quality and individuality. Great experience, recommend asking for the whole fried fish. Excellent restaurant!
I was excited to try this restaurant then they brought out the water. I took one sip and was like what's that in my glass? Well it was a dead cockroach. So naturally, we ran out of there after I notified the staff. Very unfortunate indeed!
This restaurant is a hidden gem. While many restaurants have closed or limited hours during the pandemic, Hilo Siam Thai always seems to be open and has great Thai food.
We had lunch here. Service was adequate. Ambiance was pretty basic. My husband liked his green curry. My pad Thai was bland initially but I asked for some additional spice powder and then it was good. Prices are reasonable.
If you are looking for fancy dining then this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for authentic, flavorful Thai food with the freshest ingredients, then don’t miss this place. We were originally planning to dine at the nearby restaurant just across the street. But the wait was too long, so we decided to give this Thai restaurant a try. And we did not regret!!Everything were reasonably priced. The curry was probably 11.95 and the fresh catch of the day was 14.95.We ordered the fried tofu, seafood red curry, fresh catch (fish) of the day and the larb pork. The seafood curry was very flavorful and the taste was very balanced, not too sweet and not too spicy. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. There were big prawns and squid and scallop. For the fish of the day we can have it made in anyway we want. And the fish was mahi mahi. We asked for the mahi mahi to be cooked with eggplant and sweet basil. Man!! Super fresh and tasty! The larb pork was a ground pork stir fry with onions, fish sauce, lime and probably lemongrass and fragrant leaves. Honestly I do make them at home but they did it better than me lol. You can also do larb chicken or beef if you don’t like pork. But personally I think pork is the best.Anyway, I am from California and we have so many Thai restaurants there. But I think Hilo Siam is so far one of the best ones I’ve ever been, partly because of the fresh ingredients that we probably won’t be able to get over there. I also think they prepared it really well.If I ever return to Big Island I will surely go back again!
Had a terrible experience at this restaurant. When we called to ask where we should park, the person who answered the phone was very rude right off the bat, saying "I have no idea, go find it yourself" instead of just politely saying only street parking was available.Once we got in, it took 15 minutes for a waiter to even bring us water and take our order. At this time, we could look around and see that out of the 10 seated groups, only 2 had already received their orders. Of the items we ordered, after 30 minutes, about half of them finally came. Not the appetizers, which you'd think would come sooner. After we finished these dishes, it seemed like the waiter had forgotten that we had ordered other plates as well because he said he would let the kitchen know that we were adding things. We had to remind them of the rest of our order 2 times over the next 45 minutes as they brought out our last entrees and then at the very end, our appetizers, both of which they had clearly forgotten despite the reminders. The food was mostly great but the portions were very small given the price. None of the entrees came with rice, which is different than any other Thai restaurant I've been to. In addition, their fried rice was very, very bland. It seemed to be rice cooked with some egg and a few pieces of chicken, with absolutely no seasoning and only carrots as a veggie.I would definitely avoid this place in the future.
Excellent food, godsend during thanksgiving. The garlic shrimp was apparently insanely good - I tried the gravy it was killer. My red curry was DELICIOUS. Do visit in Hilo
It rains a lot in Hilo but they do have amazing Thai food ??
