I’d like to consider myself a burger connoisseur; what’s my last meal on death row? The All-Star Breakfast from Waffle House, but a Wagyu Burger from Hilo Burger Joint comes in a close second. The trick to a good burger: being cooked just right (medium) and the right seasoning, both of which HBJ succeeded in. I’m a very basic guy (bun, meat, cheese), but take my word: this burger gave me a half chub.Don’t even get me started about the fries: cooked and seasoned to perfection.Great selection of brews from the islands and spirits from around the globe.11/10 recommend if you’re on this side of Big Island.
Absolutely amazing burger joint. They must have had 20 different burger Concoctions to choose from including wagoo beef patties. Sweet potato fries. They also have a full bar and many local and trusted brews. I really loved the old fashioned western saloon vibe. The are also LGBTQ friendly and welcomed. There's a huge and by huge I mean a true giant Banyon tree across the street which makes a great spot for a big family photo. Thanks so much for your hard work and effort to make this place awsome and tasty. Keep it up we will be returning. ?
First off the burgers were really good. Highly recommend the food. Why 2 stars then? Well the service is pitiful. When we walked in we waited probably 7 minutes to be seated while several people said they would be with us, but proceeded to do other tasks that were not time sensitive (we watched the lady who said 1 min buss two tables, take an order, and ring someone up all while there were multiple tables clean and ready). Once we got seated we were brought waters and never asked if we wanted any other drink. Then the waitress was snippy when we misunderstood a part of the menu. The waitress didn't write down our order and therefore one burger had an item on it we requested to not be included (no big deal but what if there was an allergy). Food was good but no refills on our water. Unfortunately we couldn't tip the kitchen directly, so no tip was left because frankly, the service didn't deserve it. We watched the same weird seating thing happen to other customers when they came in as well. Idk if they don't like tourists or if they were having a bad day. Maybe get the food as take out.
This place is a gem. The service was great and friendly. The teriyaki nuggets were so good, the French dip was amazing, and my husband ate his cheeseburger in record time. The only critique I had was they need to season the edamame. The garlic with the soy beans was yum but it needed a bit of salt. All in all a lovely meal.
Energizing environment with live music and delicious food. We had outdoor seating but didn’t feel like we were missing out on the vibe indoors. Our server was awesome - she was fun and took great care of us. We tried the Kim Chee for an appetizer which was good but was just a small portion by itself. I think if they warmed it or served it with something fun, there could be a cool twist there. All in all a cool place to feel like a local.
This is definitely a local preferred restaurant. They were extremely rude to our 4 groups that came in around the same time. One waitress threw a menu at one person proclaiming that what they wanted wasn’t available. Our waiter never checked on us , our son never got his drink and we never got refills. Food was decent but not worth the high prices.
We had a great time eating dinner at the Hilo Burger Joint. The burger selection was excellent and the staff were very attentive. There was also live music which was very nice. This is a great local gem in the middle of town.
Service was EXCELLENT. The waitress was an absolute rock star. The local cider was really good too. The burger I got was sadly not as flavorful as I’d hoped… it was on the bland side but the fries were tasty! Atmosphere is fun and outdoor dining was nice and cozy.
Got word that this was the spot to have a Delicious burger and I may says they were right. Though we did have a miner issue with one order it was still a good time and the staff were amazing and polite. I highly recommend this place if your in town and looking for a good place for a drink and delicious burger.
Lots of excellent local beers on tap. My burger was perfectly cooked to medium doneness. Fries were crisp and hot. Staff was friendly. Prices are typical for Hilo. What else is there to say? Would definitely recommend to others.
