Fresh fish cooked several ways, I ordered my ahi sauteed in butter and garlic. Served with soup or salad. I chose salad with ranch dressing. Fresh, crisp salad and yummy dressing. They offer white or brown rice. I ordered the brown rice. The rice was cooked perfectly. Two huge scoops on my plate. Served with mixed vegetables. I like mixed vegetables. They serve wine and beer. Good selection of beers. Dinner is also served with rolls and butter. Everything was fresh and good. The vegetables were the frozen type. I buy these vegetables for my home. Seating is comfortable. Restaurant is clean. Staff is friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking. Reasonable prices.
We were there three times in vacation and liked the dinner and service. Expecially the sparerips and the chocolate ice cake were awesome! We think that Don's grill has the best prices in the area.
If you ask me to recommend any local loco-moco restaurant in Hilo, I would recommend Don's Grill. They know how to make it. Also they sell several different good local meals here, and you would not regret to try them too. It's located in the Hilo downtown, and you can find this Dons Grill next to the cookie factory.
Service is excellent, the food appears to be, generally, sub-standard. They need to add 15 to 20% to their prices to add better quality food and cooking methods. I am not sure if I got food poisoning or the food was just that bad, but I got sick a couple of hours later.I hate to give a small business a bad review, but I needed to in this case.

We got the taco salad which was your generic taco salad. Friend got steak and shrimp. It looked pretty good, especially the onion rings on the steak. We got right in and had prompt service even though they looked pretty busy. Not a bad choice fir a Saturday lunch.
I had to have Loco Moco during our trip and chose Don's based on our location at the time and reviews. So glad we went. It is a pretty plain little diner in terms of decor and atmosphere. The food presentation is basic as well but the taste, service and value are what we were looking for. The loco moco was everything I'd hoped for with a tasty gravy and incredibly good beef - tasted more like ground steak. My husband said his club sandwich was delicious and the fries were good too. We took a slice of carrot cake to go and it was moist with a yummy whipped frosting. Loved it.

They had great customer service and good food
Amazing local place. We ordered at the takeout window, and the service was phenomenal. I got the Teriyaki chicken and breaded shrimp combo platter. Incredible food and lots of it for the price! I highly recommend.
