Visited with the family on a vacation to Hawaii. This place was amazing! The staff was friendly and the vibe was laid back. The food blew us all away. Just absolutely fantastic! Coming from a place with great food (NJ between NYC, Philly and Atlantic City) it's hard to impress us when on the road. This place has us looking for more locations back on the mainland. Sadly, I'll have to make another 10hr flight to get this delicious food again, but rest assured, the next time in town I'll be making the trip!
I took a small group here for lunch and was impressed with the food I ate but a couple things keep them from transitioning from ‘good’ to ‘great’ First, initial observation: it’s REALLY hot in there. They are running with the open air concept without actually being open air. So, really, they are just not air conditioning their room while also operating hot cooking equipment. It renders their restaurant essentially carry-out only. Secondly, while what I ate tasted GREAT (chicken longboat burrito…see pic) it was in fact not at all what I ordered or paid for. Thirdly, and maybe this is too picky but their listed prices online are about 30% less than the actual prices once in shop. As of the time of this review for instance, the “barnyard” is listed at $14.99 online but is actually $19.99. What I ordered was $3 more in person than on the website. Fourth, again probably picky but what they refer to as “spicy beef” is in fact not at all spicy. My wife, who complains about the mildest of spice if it touches her food found the spicy beef to be “actually quite good” which, allow me to translate, means ‘not spicy at all’. Finally, and I hate to be critical of this because it didn’t directly affect my order but it might impact your order as the future customer- inventory management seems to be a touch of an issue as when we were there they were completely out of fish for any dish (which when it is one of only four meat options seems like a big deal) as well as two of the six options on the fountain drink machine. Again, to be clear, I did enjoy my food. That part they got. Everything else is a little shaky.
Delicious! Beef not really spicy if you eat spicy food. Kahlua pork was tender. Regular salsa not spicy but they have hotter and habanero if you ask for it. They also have a kid menu. The employees were friendly and working hard. Restaurant and bathroom were clean. Killer Tacos is a little gem on the Haliewa North Shore if you dont want to wait in line for an hour for some of the more talked-about places.
This is my new favorite taco place on the island. I had the hard shell taco and it was a flour hard shell rather than a corn hard shell. A very nice change from the other taco places. The spicy ground beef wasn't spicy to me, but very well balanced. I also had the fish taco and it was very good as well. My daughter had the chicken soft tacos and loved them. The only reason they're getting four and not five stars....I paid for fresh guacamole and none was put on either taco.
Okay food but you'd likely find something better close by.Food: we got three fish tacos. Two of them were served with their spicy sauce and one wasn't. The spicy sauced added a marginal amount of flavor and spiciness. The tacos seemed to be a bit bitter which was a little off-putting. The fish crispy but it wasn't seasoned with anything and instead relied on the topping for a flavor boost.Service: we were the only ones in the restaurant at dinner time so the service was extremely fast. The food is prepared before hand and assembled at the time of order which makes service fast.Cleanliness: the restaurant was very well maintained.
Chris, The owner came out to greet us, handed us a sticker and shook our hands, as we came out to eat at his taco shop restaurant while in Oahu recommended by a friend of my husband. Turns out, we sort of knew him in a round about way... small world but the Taco's ? were out of this world!!! The shells were homemade and flaky... so good!!! Worth the drive & the price point was good, especially for the yum factor. Thanks again!
Great place for some really good and tasty Tacos and Burritos! Eating them is a bit messy, because the sauce is coming out everywhere, and the prices have gone up quite a bit - doubled in the recent years. Still a fair deal though, just not ‘cheap’ anymore.
If I could give this place -5 stars I would. It’s absolutely disgusting. Simple wouldn’t be the way you describe old wilted lettuce that’s browning and gross white rice without any flavor. If you can’t make simple things like rice and beans you don’t belong in the restaurant business. There are no vegetarian options unless you consider taco toppings as vegetarian. They have lettuce and jarred salsa. There aren’t any actual vegetables. Save your money for a good meal.
We stopped to get some lunch.. I had Fish tacos. Their portions are pretty big so 2 tacos were enough for me. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of my lunch. You'll love this place.
I live in Texas. We know tacos. These were some of the best. The pork tacos were sooo good! If you are on the North Shore you have to check this place out. They have a great lunch special. Hands down the most reasonably priced places we ate at while on the island and at the top of the list of yum!
